A report on ESPN.com says that the Detroit Lions have fired Head Coach Marty Mornhinweg and are very much considering Steve Mariucci.
What do you think about that? I think it was a needed move after all he had to bad seasons in Detroit and also got shut out in the Senior Bowl. (college all star game coached by NFL coaches)

5-27 overall record, 0-16 on the road - something had to be done. Detroit has other problems (Matt Millen) but this was a much needed first step.

It was a much needed move. The big question is if Mariucci even wants to coach for Detroit. He might wait out a season and wait for better offers to come along.

I was listening to the press conference where Millen announced that Marty was fired. I don't think Millen really wanted to come out and say anything yet, the only reason he did was because a bunch of the radio stations were announcing that Marty was fired. I know everyone in Detroit is hoping to have Mariucci as coach and at this point I think that's who it will be. That was the only person mentioned by name during the press conference and like most of the reporters were asking what could have happened between December 31 (when Millen said Marty would be coach in 2003) and now that would have him make this decision? And the only thing I can think of is that Mariucci was released by the 49ers. So for now, the people of Detroit can only hope the people behind the Lions will make the right choices this time.

Appearently Dennis Green is also on Detroit's short list of coaches according to ESPN's sportscenter.
Matt Millen better have a good hire and a good season next year in order to keep his own job.
Even though I'm a huge Vikings fan, I want the Lions to have a good hire and have a good team in the next year or two so the Vikings and Lions can kick the crap out of Green Bay!!

He should have been fired, when he won the coin toss in overtime and decided to give it to the other team because of the wind. He is the stupiest coach in NFL hstory.
