Maynard G Krebs was a character played by Bob Denver on "The Many Loves of Dobie Gillis", a TV Sitcom that ended just before "Gilligan's Island" premiered.

Okay Maynard G. Krebs is played by Bob Denver in "The Many Loves Of Dobie Gillis"
it ran from '59-'63.
And yes it's the same dude who played Gilligan.
Maynard's a beatnik and you would often find him hanging around with his best friend , Dobie Gillis.
maynard sure does have a way with words.
he says colorful phrases like,"You rang?" or "Like I'm gettin' all misty"
He could use some new clothes.
he always wears a gray t-shirt that slopply tucked in and has 2 big holes in them.
He also wears gray pants and as for the socks,T,i guese he wears cotton gray socks,and worn out tennis shoes.

He loves jazz and scary movies.
And he hates to work. If you mention it he'll scream bloody murder.
Oh, and dobie's obsesses with girls,while Maynard only likes the beatnik girls.
