Can you think of any careers that were jump-started because of a certain TV or movie role?
The two that come to my mind are:

John Travolta in Pulp Fiction. After making a huge entrance with Saturday Night Fever, he seemed destined for a lifetime of Look Who's Talking movies, then along came Pulp Fiction which jumpstarted his career like nothing I can remember.
He's an A-List actor again, which is great because I always liked John Travolta and never quite got why his career faltered.
I'll bet Quentin Tarantino is on his Christmas card list.

Burt Reynolds in Boogie Nights. Just when everyone had him for dead careerwise, along came the role as a porn director in Boogie Nights. This role earned him a Best Supporting Actor Oscar nomination. I haven't seen him in much lately, so I don't know if this qualifies as an official comeback, but it did resurrect his career, albeit briefly.

Bruce Willis was accepted as a decent comical TV actor because of his role on Moonlighting. But I doubt many besides himself took him seriously as a movie actor before he starred in Die Hard. He became an 'instant' movie star after that. He's kept himself close to the top eversince.

Mike Myers helped resurrect Rob Lowe's career but I don't know if you can classify that as great.

I was glad that Robert Forster was cast in Jackie Brown. He's underrated in my opinion. He earned an Oscar nomination for Best Supporting Actor for the role, after over two decades in B movies.
I think Quentin Tarantino is on his Christmas card list as well. :)

I think Quentin Tarantino is on his Christmas card list as well. :) He's the guy who played the bondsman? If so then yeah, he was convincing.

Frank Sinatra's career was on the decline in 1953. With the help of his superstar wife, Ava Gardner, he landed the role of Maggio in From Here to Eternity, for which he won an Oscar for Best Supporting Actor.

John Travolta saved his career with Pulp Fiction.

Bruce Willis' career was stagnating until The Sixth Sense came along.

Eddie Murphy's career seemed to hit a wall until The Nutty Professor came along.
