View Full Version : Archie's Diet Episode

I watched the episode where Archie goes on a diet per his doctor's orders. It's strange hearing Edith tell him he has to do it to live and for his heart. The old guy gives him a stern warning in Kelsey's bar too. He actually told him that if he didn't lose weight, he'd die or something like that.
It's ironic because, as we all know, a heart attack takes Carroll O'Connor's life.
Do these thoughts cross any one else's mind or am I the only morbid one here?

Oh no, you aren't the only one that thinks things like that. I look at some shows and the thought crosses my mind about how many of them are dead. I like mostly old shows, so quite a few of the stars from the old shows that I like are gone.

Take for instance the Sanford and Son marathon, I was watching that today and it hit me that only 2 of the main stars are still alive and that would be Demond Wilson (Lamont) and Nathaniel Taylor (Rollo). Well, I don't know if you could count Rollo as one of the main stars- but those are the only two, to my knowledge that are still alive.

I know. It's so strange and sad. Take I Love Lucy, for example. Looking at a scene with the Ricardos and the Mertzs...and they're all gone. Lives lived, lives gone. :(

That's the one thing I hate about classic tv. If you like a show from the 50s, most of the stars are already gone by now. You might have a couple still alive, but not that many.

There was an episode (I don't know the title. Sorry.) where Archie and Edith took a life expectancy test. When Archie was unsatisfied with his score, Gloria "fudged" the figures and told him he would live to age 75...Carroll O'Connor died at age 76!

Yeah, I caught that too and was thinking the same thing. I felt awful when Carroll O'Connor died, just awful. I remember I was on the phone with a friend, and I saw it on TV. I had to hang up the phone. It was so unexpected.
You know how some celebrity deaths don't really affect you and others hit you hard? His death was right up there with John Belushi, John Lennon, JFK Jr. and Princess Diana for me.
I recall I felt very bad when Ted Knight died too.
I think of all the celebrity deaths, Carroll O'Connor's was the saddest for me. Took me a while to shake it. :(

I was so surprised by Carroll's death. I know we're talking about two separate people, but when I heard about Carroll's death I just couldn't help but think about Archie. You never think about Archie Bunker dying. I even remember writing about his death in my diary and stating that you would never think that Archie Bunker could die. Carroll is gone still, but we'll never lose Archie in a sense. As long as some channel still shows AITF or ABP, we'll never lose Archie.

Wasn't the guy (kid) who played "Stymie" in the "Little Rascals" also in Sanford & Son? I forget what his real name is. I remember reading that somewhere. Right?

I DONT THINK THAT COUNTS AS IRONIC TOO MUCH REALLY
AT THE THIME THAT EPISODE AIRED ARCHIE WAS IN HIS EARLY 50'S AND CARROLL O'CONNOR LIVED WELL INTO HIS 70'S.
IT WAS JUST HIS TIME TO GO

NOW IF CARROLL O'CONNOR HAD DIED WHEN HE ABOUT 55 YEARS OLD THEN IT WOULD HAVE BEEN VERY IRONIC
