Just wondering how the Lionel Jefferson character became friends with the Mike Stivic character on All in the family since i have not followed the show from the beginning.

Well in the first episode,it appeared they were already friends,lionel was fixing a radio at the bunker house,and talking with Mike and Gloria,as if they had ben friends for sometime.I dont know if they ever did a flashback episode to show anything happening before this.
