View Full Version : Would the Checking In Spinoff had lasted longer if it started after the Jeffersons?

Since the Jeffersons was still in the top 20, i think the spinoff Checking In would have lasted longer if it started in 1985 because it wouldn't have gone up against the Jeffersons. I don't think it was a good idea to expect the show Checking In to compete with a show that was doing good and had already been on the air for 6 years. By starting Checking In in 1981, the
viewing public could not focus on the Florence character being on her sitcom with Jeffersons still in existence. Anyone Agree?

I just don't think the show was very well written.

i don't think the writing would have made much difference since it had to compete with the Jeffersons. The viewing public had the choice between the Jeffersons and it other supporting characters and Florence with a whole new cast of characters. Maybe good writing would have helped the show if it debuted in september of 1985 instead of a mid season replacement.

The Jeffersons didn't compete with Checking in.

What?? All spinoffs had to compete with it's parent show. Jeffersons had to compete All in the family, Maude had to do the same, especially while the parent show is still on the air. And luckily those two shows did well. So it's always a risk when a character spins off into their own show because the parent can be in the top 10. Why do you think Isabel Sanford didn't want to do the Jeffersons?????? Because she knew it had to compete with AITF and at the time AITF was in the top ten.

I thought you meant actually COMPETE with the Jeffersons. Like it was on another network or something.
