Charlie's Angels - DVD Release in 2003

According to DVD.com, Columbia Tri-Star will release Charlie's Angels: The Complete First Season, right before it's second big-screen movie next summer.

A month (to the day) before the remake's sequel hits theaters, fans of "Charlie's Angels" can celebrate the original series release on DVD. Yes, Columbia is certainly going "full throttle" with this one!

Columbia TriStar is releasing "Charlie's Angels: The Complete First Season" on May 27th. Not only will this 5-disc set feature every episode of the rookie season, but is coming complete with the excellent "Angels Forever" featurette that was on the old Angels Under Cover (http://www.tvshowsondvd.com/releaseinfo.cfm?ReleaseID=565) DVD release. Also expected are trailers for the remake films and some DVD-ROM games.

But wait...there's more! In a move similar to what Universal did with "Baretta", Columbia TriStar is - on the same day (May 27th) - also releasing "The Best of Charlie's Angels". This cheaper 1-disc item features the following 5 fan-favorite episodes from the first season:

Angels in Chains
The Séance
Hellride
Consenting Adults
Dancing in the Dark

Note that none of these are duplicates of the two episodes on the previous Angels Under Cover DVD release mentioned above. Trailers for the remake films will be on this version as well.

Both DVD releases will be in their original full-frame aspect ratio. Sound specs aren't available yet. The suggested list price for the Best-Of is $19.95 (Canadian price $29.95 CAN), but the full first season can be had for a low list price of just $49.95 (Canadian price to be determined).

All of this is in additon to the inclusion of a single Charlie's Angels episode on Columbia's May 6th release of "The Greatest '70s Cop Shows" (see separate news items).

I bought mine last week for $47 Canadian at Wal-Mart! The sound and picture quality is excellent. It also has a "play all" option for anyone who wants to have a mini-marathon. The original pilot movie and "Angels Forever" documentary are also on this 5 disc set of the first season.
