For those of you who have seen the ending of part two of African Romance, was that the weirdest ending or what? Why would the Thelma character after she refused to marry the African guy, just pick up and walk out the door leaving her family in his house instead of waiting and then leaving with everyone who came there with her. Question, would anybody who decided to not marry someone and had your family as a guest in that person's house, if you decided not to arry that person would you just walk out and leave your family in their house?

It was spur of the moment.

Something else I didn't understand. When Thelma put her foot down about refusing to become part of a polymous household, he whined about 'how can you ask me to turn my back on hundreds of years of traditions?' She just wailed something about being sorry but what I'd have REELY liked her to do was tell him ' I'm leaving my family and turning my back on all MY traditions because I love you. Can't you turn your back on ONE tradition for my love?'

I always liked that ending. It showed how much Thelma's decision affected her, and really leaving was the only thing she could do. She just rejected the marriage proposal of someone she really cared for, staying around any longer than necessary would probably been too much.

I don't disagree with you but how would you have liked to have been one of the Evanses (or Willona) in the immediate aftermath- sitting on the apartment floor? I've often wondered if they finished the sumptuous exotic meal Thelma and the Nigerian fiance prepared (and had it creep down the esophaguses like a buckshot pie) or whether they hastily thanked him for his hospitality with very strained politeness but made a rapid retreat from the apartment to try to catch up to Thelma? What would u do?

I think it's only logical to state that the Evans' obviously would have left Ibe's apartment. Suggesting that they stayed for dinner goes against the characters' nature (at least Florida).
