Wow, I feel old. Time to give you a history lesson, young'un.

Once upon a time, David Letterman was on NBC at 12:30, hosting a show entitled "Late Night With David Letterman." The show aired from 1982-1993.

In 1991, Johnny Carson announced his retirement from "The Tonight Show." All logic pointed to David Letterman being first in line for succession. After all, he'd been with the network longer than frequent "Tonight Show" guest host Jay Leno and was the show's permanent guest host before Leno took over that job.

But Letterman got screwed over by the network. They chose Leno over Letterman. This did not make Dave happy. By the time Johnny did his last show in 1992, Dave was already looking for other network options. Fox, ABC, CBS, and certain syndication distributors were all interested.

In early 1993, he announced he'd be leaving NBC for CBS. The last episode of "Late Night With David Letterman" aired in May. The first episode of "The Late Show With David Letterman" aired on CBS in August.

Before Dave's last show with NBC, it was announced that his successor would be a virtually unknown-to-the-public writer named Conan O'Brien. O'Brien's credentials included "Saturday Night Live" and "The Simpsons." Conan's first show aired in September. The show kept the "Late Night" moniker. It's also taped in the same studio Letterman taped his "Late Night."

The NBC show is what Trio will be rerunning.
