Chopper. But he was only a one ep friend. Of the ongoing friends I liked Whitey, but only out of process of elim. I hated Gilbert, thought Richard was too much of a wise guy and couldn't stand Larry. The Cleavers really are totally dysfunctional when it comes to friends. Ward is friends with Fred. Wally is friends with Eddie and Lumpy and Beaver and his crew. And poor June has no friends. They all choose friends that they acknowledge as bad choices, but can't seem to live without them.:snowman: :stocking: :santa: :snowman3:
I don't think Beaver's friends differ very much. But with Larry, from the latter part of season #1 through season #3, it was just a more steady friendship. After Larry left, Gilbert and Richard were 'interchangeable;' either could do the other's role in any given ep. If there was any real difference between them, I suppose it would be that Gilbert was more of a liar and Richard was a little more cunning. Whitey's role seemed to be smaller than the others [take that as a pun if you wish], but he was the only one of Beaver's 4 main buddies who was there throughout the run of the series. But the 2 times he led Beaver astray were significant ones-- when he won Beaver's baseball glove in a bet because Beaver put so much trust in his Dad's words; and when he conned Beaver into climbing the billboard to prove there was not real soup in the giant cup.
But all of Beaver's friends were less conscientious than Beaver, and that is what leads to the source of conflict with Beaver doing something he knows he shouldn't do because of his 'friend's' influence.
