View Full Version : What's Up With Pebbles Cereal?

This is going to seem silly to most of you (so what else is new, huh?), but I have to ask: What's up with Barney stealing Fred's cereal, anyway? Can't he carry his stone-age butt to the supermarket and buy his own cereal? And why won't Fred share his cereal with his bosom buddy, close friend, and life-long chum? Is there something more going on here than the usual Madison Avenue chicanery, or am I reading too much into these proceedings?
Your thoughts, please.

It's not the cereal Barney wants persay, he wants Fred's cereal because Barney is stalking Fred. Maybe there should be an E Hollywood Story on this. ;)
This shameful behavior has gone on in cereal cartoons for as long as I can remember.
Why is it so friggin hard for the Rabbit to get a bowl of Trix? His various hare-brained schemes to acquire a box has reached Wile E. Coyote proportions in insanity. He's been shilling for the cereal company for decades, why not reward the poor bastard?
Then of course there's the horrible children who time after time visciously hunt down poor Lucky, TV's most put upon Leprechan. Sure, they claim they're after his Lucky Charms, but what it really boils down to is prejudice, pure and simple!
Leave the Irish alone!
This injustice must be stopped. Balanced breakfast my a$$!

Yeah you notice when they say, "part of this complete breakfast", they show an entire full spread breakfast with eggs, waffles, toast, orange juice, hash browns and bacon. So what they're really saying is for a bowl of the Coco Puffs to be nutritious, you have to eat all that other crap. :D

I don't know about a E Hollywood Story, but you know what Fred always says in all of those commercials...

Now that I think of it, this is probably more appropriate to "The Jerry Springer Show " ("I Covet My Neighbor's Cereal");)

I have to agree with every word so far about cereal commercials. The cereals mentioned are nothing more than candy & offer virtually no nutrition. You'll notice also that when they show the so called complete breakfast, every slice of toast has the pat of butter in the middle, all the glasses of orange juice and milk are exactly the same and filled to the same level etc... Also, who actually drinks both milk and orange juice for breakfast??? I prefer orange juice myself, I can't stand the sight of milk, at least not the cow variety.

And what about that poor Cookoo Bird. He's been going cookoo for Coacoa Puffs for years. When are they going to get him a psychiatrist? And what about that Frootloops toucan. For years he's been telling people he follows his nose and he doesn't even have one!!! Someone should tell him he has a beak not a nose!!

Exactly, and after you eat all that other stuff, who could still be hungry for cereal??

I recall how the commercials for Pebbles cereal that were seen earlier in the 1970s were very different indeed. They would include Wilma and Betty. If I remember correctly, these commercials involved Fred and Barney keeping the Pebbles cereal a secret from Wilma and Betty. The girls even wore clothing of a different colour from their trademark outfits. But these commercials seem totally forgotten since the ones with Barney constantly trying to trick Fred out his Pebbles cereal took over.

In response to what someone posted earlier about who drinks both Milk and Orange Juice with their breakfast, I do sometimes. Like if I'm having Scrambled Eggs and Toast with a Danish or Muffin on the side, I'll drink the Orange Juice with the eggs and toast and drink Milk with the Danish/Muffin. Has anyone else ever done this?
