View Full Version : Only in my state...
I was just wondering if anyone would like to share something that is unique to their home state...
Let me show you what I mean...
My home state-
Arkansas:
http://www.hoghats.com/Thomas.jpg
The Hog Hat...I bet you wouldn't see this anywhere else...
or
Wisconsin:
http://www.surprise.com/images/ideas/2847-01.jpg
The Cheesehead Hat...Uniquely Wisconsin!
Is your state this retarted?
Does your state have anything "unique" like this?(It doesn't have to be a hat...)

Well I think Michigan is unique because of it's shape. I think it is the coolest shaped state. Idunno, maybe it's just me.
Also (this isn't in Michigan, it's in Ohio) there is a road called Needmore Road. My brothers and I really got a kick out of that one.

Only in Alabama would they have a election for owning goats (and show the results on the news), have a commercial with some freak woman running for congress who says that she picked cotton for 3 cents a pound and she "knows the value of a dollar" so that means we should vote for her. She lost anyway cause shes a dumb democrat. hahaha.

Well, this just involves my town. I'm so embarrassed to tell this, but it happens. It's true. My town has cow pattie contests. The football players sell these tickets with #'s on em. Then during one of the football games (I guess) they have the field lined up with the numbers from the tickets. They feed the cow all day long and then lead him onto the field. If the cow takes a load on #66, and I had that number then I would win some cash. Can you believe that? Out of all the things, out of all the contests that a person could participate in- it has to be a cow pattie contest.

Also, obviously we are famous for our auto plants . Me , being from the Flint area , noted for Buick City, and the truck and bus assembly plant (GM of course!)
The Mackinac Bridge and our beautiful great lakes!

Hmm...well NH is very popular for Mass. smokers. Down in Mass. cigaretts cost like what..over $5? But drive a few extra miles and you can buy them for $1.99 and up. We get all the Massachusetts smokers because theyre so cheap.
Well, since I couldnt think of anything excited about my state, I decided to check out the website www.nh.com Ill list anything *ahem* interesting about the state.
Odd city/town names:
Bow
Bath
Dummer
Effingham..it sounds funny when you say it outloud LOl
Fitzwilliam
Goshen
Harts Location
Orange
Sandwich
Sugar Hill
Yaya I know..not the most unique names what can I say? I live in a boring state.
People also come from all over the place to see the foliage.
*Fast Facts*
New Hampshire has 4 nicknames. The first is the one by which the state is commonly known.
Granite State: for our extensive granite formations and quarries
Mother of Rivers: for the rivers of New England that originate in our Mountains
White Mountain State: for the White Mountain Range
Switzerland of America: for our beautiful mountain scenery
Robert Frost (b. California 1874-1963)
Poet who wrote on rural New England; winner of four Pulitzer Prizes
J.D. Salinger (b. New York 1919- )
Recluse author of Catcher in the Rye.
And hey!!! We got OLD MAN ON THE MOUNTAIN!!!!!!
Consisting of five separate granite ledges whose natural arrangement creates a man's profile from the right viewing point, The Old Man of the Mountain measures about 40 feet from chin to forehead.
Look @ him!! LOl

 We don't have that here, but we do have a cow chip chucking contest...see how far you can fling the cow poop...
We also have some interesting town names here in Arkansas...
Besides Toad Suck and Booger Hollow which I have mentioned, we have Romance, Snow Ball, Oil Trough, Fifty-Six, and a bunch of others I can't think of now...
We also have this place where you can actually dig for diamonds. It's in Murfreesboro. It's called the Crater of Diamonds and people go there for an entire day digging in the dirt for diamonds. About a year ago a lady dug one up worth 35,000 dollars...It was pretty cool.

That's no biggie...we have those here in Texas too...we call it Cow Bingo :D
We also have Big Tex. He's been greating people to the state fair since his debut in 1952.
Tex is the worlds tallest cowboy. He stands at an imposing 52 feet, and consequently, a difficult one to dress. His size 100 180/181 shirt, as well as his 284W/185L XXXXXL jeans, must be tailored specifically for his frame. The pants alone require 72 yards of denim and weigh in at 65 pounds.
Then, of course, there are the accessories. Tex's boots — size 70 — tower 7 feet, 7 inches, and a five-foot-tall cowboy hat tops the ensemble.

No, it must have come out wrong...You can do this any time of the year...not just once-the lady found the thing a year ago is all i mean with that...and yes, what you find-you keep...but the chances of actually finding something are small, because I know a bunch of people who have been and they didn't find jack diddly, and whenever someone does-it's all over the local news. There is probably an admission fee, but I don't think it's that much, I mean kids go to this place for school field trips.
PS~ BBF I checked out your LITB site-its awesome! Keep up the good work! I always watch that show on my break @ work! LOl
Thanks!

-My town is know as the ramp capital of the world. Not like an inclined ramp, they're a plant thing that grow wild & they stick awful!!! I can't believe people eat them! I'll never eat them b/c I can't get passed the smell.
-There's a town called Big Ugly LOL
-WV is number 1 in like everything!!!
#1 in obeseity
#1 teen smoking
#1 teen pregnancy (my county is #1)
there's more that I can't remember..

There's a lot of websites, but I was too tired to find the better ones. There's also a movie about the mothman called the MOthman Prohphecies and Richard Gere, & Debra Messing were in it. It was out last year. I didn't like it very much, but I was thrilled that they made a movie about something that happened here, but they didn't film it in WV. Grrrr

Hey, I'm from Wisconsin... LEAVE THE CHEESHEADS ALONE!!! :P They are uniquely Packers, actually.
Okay... question for you. What's a 'bubbler?'
Give up? It's what EVERYONE in Wisconsin calls a "water fountain." You ALWAYS hear bubbler, rarely water/drinking fountain.
(And hey, a state that Gene Wilder, Chris and Kevin Farley, and Tony Shalhoub all come from can't be that bad.)

Okay, while I was in the salon today, I was think about stuff in NJ...
ONLY in NJ:
can a town with 5,000 people have
-4 "nail AND hair" salons, plus a nail salon that specializes in nails
-3 pizza joints
-3 delis
BUT yet
-no movie theater
-no road that is more than 1 lane per side, and most roads are 1 way cause they are too damn small
-only 1 "market" and I say market cause it's too small to be a supermarket, and it's damn expensive cause it's mostly pre-prepared foood....
Seriously, the proportions for business to business in my town are screwed up...

There's a resturant on the outskirts of my town...it's soo awesome. It's an old speakeasy from prohibition. It doesn't have a sign, and it looks like a normal house from the outside (except for that parking lot next to it...but even that is right next to a park, so it looks like a parking lot for the park) Nobody would ever guess it was an actual resturant, but "the locals" know... Anyway, when you first walk in, it's just a resturant, but the bar is downstairs in the basement, and it's hidden behind this panel... it's so awesome... yeah
