Libraries?

Does anyone go to the library? What do you go for? I use the computers every night while I wait to get my own laptop. What do you like/not like about libraries? Currently as I type this there are a few derelicts who sit around having nothing better to do than yack about stupid crap while people are studying. No wonder I want my own computer....:mad:

i rarely go to libraries. only the one in school, when teachers require me too. Otherwise, I just buy books, or borrow them from friends.

I go to the library a lot to get books. I also buy books from Barnes and Nobles a LOT

Hardly ever unless I have something on hold... it's too much of a hassel to travel. ;)

I usually go maybe one every 2 weeks at the most. When I do go, it's for a project or to find TV books.

I love going to the library. I don't really check out many books anymore. The books I want to read are the books they don't have. So I put down for the book and they can get the books through other libraries. One of the librarians made a comment to my mom the other day that she knows all the old tv books are the ones I read. Geez, even the librarians know I'm stuck in the 60s. ;)

Well, during my free last year all I ever went was to the library/media room. Mostly I read the magazines I was too cheap to buy myself LOl, but I did read a Marilyn Monroe Mystery Death book, an RL Stine book, and a couple others too. I promised myself Id go to my town library (if you wanna call it a library) this summer...but it never happened.

i go there once a month...I get some gwtw books out....or school books, I hate when 1312523 loser teens hang out at the library and act like complete idiots... I also hate the way the cop at our library gives every1 a evil look

once in a while...i usually just go to barnes and noble since it's like a 2 minute walk away.

Yeah, some of your conceptions about 'the library' are slanted due to not enough exposure. In my town we have two. One is small, and I can see why the original poster of this thread doesn't like using the computers at the library. At the small one there is no partition between computers so the ratatatatatat of the person next to you is very distracting if you're trying to concentrate. The other library is bigger. It has comfortable reading chairs, good lighting, and the computer section is separate from the main library, and provides partitions between each computer. Also, closer to what Dawnongirl is talking about, I went to some of the many UCLA libraries a while back and they are so well stocked that you'd have to be illiterate to not be able to find something of interest.

As for just finding and checking out books that you're interested in--if it weren't for browsing at the library I wouldn't have discovered a lot of the books I've enjoyed reading over the years. If you only buy whatever book you think are going to be of interest to you, you'll overlook and miss out on GREAT books and GREAT authors.

Actually, the thing that bothered me when I started this thread were the total MORONIC derelicts who thought nothing of talking up a storm AT THE COMPUTER STATIONS when they weren't even USING them..... Conversations at the computer stations bother me because you can't concentrate...unless you keep your voice down and the conversation brief. ANOTHER thing that totally drove me crazy yesterday was when I had just finished one session and was scheduled to go to another computer station when I tried to type my library card number and phone digits in the log-in window AND THESE STUPID PORN POP-UPS CAME POPPING UP FROM OUT OF NOWHERE!!!!!!!!! I tried like CRAZY to
X them out AND THEY JUST KEPT POPPING UP ON SCREEN AND I COULD NOT GET RID OF THEM!!!!!!:mad: I think the last person who was using the computer was getting a little too happy with the porn sites and ruining it for the next user, because those sites are POISON. THEY ARE HELL. The librarian got me onto another computer, thank God...

I love the library! I barely ever go there but check out books all the time from there! I go online to the libraries site and log in to there catalog... Type in books that IM interested in (Usually books on UFOlogy/Paranormal), Put it on hold.... then 2 days later when its transferred from another library and ready to be picked up, My Mom picks it up at the library on the way home from work...

That's lousy about what Blair'smy/pie said. It makes it REAL hard to do your homework or whatever. I just hope you don't get bad attitude about libraries in general because of that.
