LOS ANGELES (Zap2it.com) - The WB has picked up "What I Like about You"
and "Family Affair," ensuring that all four of its new comedies will last a full
season.
The full-season orders given to "What I Like" and "Family Affair" follow the pickups
of The Frog's other freshman comedies, "Do Over" and "Greetings from Tucson."
The drama "Everwood" has also earned a full-season order.
Of the network's new shows, only "Birds of Prey" hasn't received word on its future,
but a pickup seems likely after the first two airings brought significant ratings boosts
among teens and young adults, The WB's target audience, over last year's
performance in the timeslot (9 p.m. Wednesdays).
Neither "Family Affair" (3.4 million viewers a week at 8 p.m.
Thursdays) nor "What I Like about You" (3.5 million at 8 p.m.
Fridays) is setting the Nielsen ratings on fire, but WB Entertainment
president Jordan Levin says he's happy with the creative development
of both shows.
"The WB looks at program development as a one-year process," Levin says.
"Comedies need nurturing and time to hit their stride."
"Family Affair" is an update of the 1960s series starring Gary Cole as
bachelor-turned-father-figure Uncle Bill and Tim Curry as his butler, Mr. French. "What
I Like" stars Amanda Bynes as an accident-prone 16-year-old who lives with her older
sister, played by Jennie Garth ("Beverly Hills, 90210").
