View Full Version : Not laughing as much...anyone else?

Yep, this oughta do it. Final year for sure. I literally haven't laughed once the first couple eps. A couple of chuckles but not the bust out loud ones I used to get from this show.

Critics and fans say once you introduce a baby to a show, you know it's on life support. But that's not my problem. When a show resorts to funny names, then you know there's trouble. Wiener, Tit-whatever and Poop-whatever. Not a good sign.

But I will say, what keeps me watching is the charm of the cast who still come off as great characters.

I agree... I've not seen any of season 9 yet (in fact I've hardly seen any season 8... I gave up watching because I think that once everyone started to get really serious the show became less funny) but I definitely think the show was much funnier in its first four or five years.

Have I taken hold of completely the wrong end of the stick here or what?

I don't what you two are talking about. I think it is completely funny and last nights episode with Joey setting up Poebe with a stranger was no disappointment. I laughed my butt off.

Watched it.
Not funny.
Joey is the best part of the show.

Start the Joey spinoff.

I can't speak about the latest season, because like I said, I haven't seen it. I was just saying that generally I preferred the show five years ago.

I thought it was pretty funny, it just hasn't been that great the last couple of years. It used to be better but it is a great cast of people who are easy to like. All I can say is I'm clinging to it like grim death because I only watch 4 current sitcoms and I don't see any coming down the pipeline to replace the 4 I like once they're gone.
Matt LeBlanc has already had 2 or 3 network shows that he was the star of, he just can't carry them himself. We're doomed!

The only person who I thought was funny yesterday was Joey. They have to spice it up some more.

Yesterday's episode wasn't as funny as the premiere but it was still good although I do agree that Joey was the funniest character that ep. The Chandler and Monica scene at the end was sweet too, even though they are making them live in different states 4 days a week. :(

I haven't seen 903 yet, but I thought 901 and especially 902 were pretty funny. Don't get me wrong, it was WAY better seasons 3-6, and maybe 7, but it is still funny and watchable.

As for it being the last year... once we get closer to 916, we'll know...

901 was ok, they gave it their best shot, and Joey was the only funny guy.
902 was boring, baby cry this, baby cry that, and it seems that's the way it'll keep going this year..all about baby..hope it ends soon.

Well I liked it, and I don't know why everyone keeps saying there's going to be aJoey spinoff...In a magazine artticle I have it says..

The final season means the cast can do more movie roles next year. "I'm probably going into porno," crack LeBlanc. But seriously, like the others, he'll try something different. "When you get off a series, the actor inside wants to stertch a bit," he says.

So I don't know who heard about a Joey spinoff, becuz he didn't mention anything about it....and it doesn't sound like theres gonna be one...

I think the season has been ok, and I've had a few good laughs, but I don't think this season's episodes are as funny as previous episodes either.

The season's first too episodes flat-out SUCKED! The last 2 episodes "TOW The Peditrician" abd "TOW The Sharks" were ok compared to the first 2 episodes where I litterally didn't laugh once!

I'm not a big fan of the Mike character.

Also the first 2 episodes looked filmed as opposed to being taped and it just was annoying IMO since I'm used to the show being taped.

Well Phoebe has to be with someone!!

I like the show, but it has been the same old stuff for the past several seasons. The only thing that kept it alive was the latest love triangle and the Ross and Rachel story (which is the main story anyways, otherwise the show might not have existed for so long).

And no, Phoebe does not necessarily have to be with someone. To me she has always been an annoying character anyway, and a supporting one too.

Eww...I didn't ask for your opinion on my comment...and YES she does have to be with someone because she deserves it. Just because you don't like her doesn't mean she doesn't deserve to have someone love her!

okay, I know I'm definately in a minority for this, but so far (season premiere exempted), I think this is the funniest year since season 3 or 4. If this indeed is the last season, I think this will be a final season to remember, instead of being a season that is so-so like many of the latter seasons.

Ugh...I'm sorry but so far this season has been not so funny. IMO Friends has been going down hill since about the 5th season. After everyone found out about Chandler and Monica(Funniest Friends episode ever) the show seems strained and tired. Of course I still watch because the characters keep me interesting. But the writing is getting very lazy.

It'll be sad to see Friends go, but they really should end the series at the end of this season. We don't want this show to end up as bad as Frasier has been lately.

like u said IMO bcuz no one else thinks that way. all of the ratings are high up and they r at the top as #1. if u read my post on season 10 u will get some info on how they wud only do about 13 episodes if they did a 10th

I don't think the show has been that bad this season. Its still funny, but I think its been less creative, that is, its the characters themselves that keep me watching, not the plots. I have watched the show from the beginning, so I have come to know and like the characters and enjoy seeing them every week. I think the issue is that the show has been on for so long that the original premise is dying. Friends was supposed to be about six twenty-something singles living in the city and their trials and tribulations. Now, its about 6 thirty-somethings, two of whom are married and settled, another with a baby, etc. They are not the same people we saw in the first few seasons, they have grown and matured to this new stage of life, which is what is supposed to happen, and the fact that the show has been able to successfully follow them this far is great. However, I think this should be the last season because the show should go out on top so it can be remembered the way it is, before it goes too far downhill. So, yes I think the show is not what it used to be, which can be both a good and bad thing, but it has become so through the fault of no one in particular, merely the passage of time.

Let me tell you one thing, it wasn't funny last night.
Ross is more annoying than ever and Rachel's overprotectiveness is already old.

And is it me, or did Matthew Perry look like he was about to die?
His face was all contorted and sickly.

Personally I thought last night's episode was great, Phoebe was funny and I loved Ross's story of the eagle flying into the apartment. I still think its good.

Yeah..i agree. I think it was good also. I didnt like the whole Rachel being so overprotective though. Her character shouldn't be written like that personally....but it's understandable..i guess....

Last night was Ok, however, I have one huge complaint...If my husband started in on me like Monica did to Chandler the minute I walked in the door after being away on business, I'd have walked right back out the door. It's like they're trying to make us hate everyone so we won't be upset when it finally does go off the air.

I've noticed that a lot of you who thinks Friends is still great and the episode last night was great are all under 20 years old and in a lot of cases under 15.

I don't think it takes much to please you or you just can't see the slack off in writing.

Sorry if that came off as insulting.

Everbody is entitled to their own opinion, I always say that.

I just thought that more people would think the show has lost something and that a lot of posters don't want to find fault or are just happy to see their favorite show.

But if you're happy with it, I have no reason to slack you for it.

Just a friendly disagreement.

I have seen a slack in recent seasons and episodes but what can you do when a show has been on so long but still has high ratings? I still enjoy the show and there has never been an episode where at the end I said, "That ws horrible." Every episode makes me laugh and usually has a part that makes me burst out laughing.

Well I think the reason why I like Friends so much now is because that I didn't really start watching until the latter part of Season 7, that season wasn't the best but I thought it was funny. Then when I saw Season 8 and 9 I really liked them. I have seen the earlier episodes but by seeing the later episodes first I just like them better for some reason.

I don't think it has been a bad season. The first episode was kind of a disappointment, but still funny. The most recent show has been my least favorite so far -- didn't think it was that funny. But all of the other episodes have been pretty good. I think the best part of this season has been all the scenes with Monica and Chandler. They have been especially funny! Give it time, guys. Hopefully next week will be great with Freddie Prinze Jr. and I'm sure that the writers have some great stories planned, especially if they think that this will be the last season.

I also thought Thursday's episode was pretty good. I'm loving the scenes this season with Chandler and Monica......and on the flipside hating the scenes with Ross and Rachel gnawing at each other about the baby. And I've always loved the scenes with Phoebe and Joey. Actually I like any scene with Phebs. So far this has been the best episode yet, because so far the show has been sucking. That was the worst season premiere friends ever had. Including "the one with Monica's thunder" which i thought was funny.

This week's episode with Mike and Ross was really funny and so was the one with Christina Applegate. But the others were ok.
