View Full Version : New Opening Credits/Theme Song for All My Children
Anyone else see it? The theme's a reworking/calmer/more moderner version of the 1990-94 opening. The visuals features live action photos of the cast with their names scribble on the screen.

I can't believe they changed their opening credits. They have had the old one for years and years, why change it now? I thought it was funny that Susan Lucci is at the back of the book now instead of in front like she used to. Is she still the main character of the show or what? Is she in both opening credits?
Here comes the lecture lol:
1970-1971
When AMC premiered in 1970, the opening credits consisted of a shot of a crowded desk. The camera zooms in on a leather-bound photo album. A female's hand then opens the album and there comes the logo. For the first few months, the hand turns to a second page, a live action "photo" of Rosemary Prinz, who was the 'special guest star.'
1971-1990
After Rosemary left, the show was done in color. Instead of sounding sad and tragic, the new version of the theme song was more cheerful. There weren't any changes other than the fact that the closed album was now black, and when the hand opens it, some sort of sunshine accompanies the logo. This one premiered in 1971, and lasted till 1990.
1990-1994
An upbeat opening came. The theme was more in time with the late 80s, early 90s. It started with a perky piano and banged into a rcokin' saxophone and electric guitar. The visuals started with the crowded desk having pictures of Brooke, Adam, Stuart and other characters on it. The camera travels over the desk, and when the music kicks in, they start to show pictures of other cast members. For instance, they have two stacks of pictures. Out of no where, a picture comes and tops off one of the stacks, and another does the same with the other stack, then another picture comes and centers itself between the stacks. That happens a couple of times, sometimes just having the picture center itself between the stacks. It ends with a photo of Erica being placed into the album, which closes to reveal the logo.
1995-2002
For its 25th anniversary, AMC jumped the gun and changed it's opening again. This time, the opening credits were JUST like the ones that just ended, but instead of live action shots, vignette head shots of the cast members were used. In July 1996, the more recent version started. The theme song was the same as the one that just ended, but from 1997-1998, the used a more quiter piano version, but they returned to the 1995-1997 version once again.
2002-????

So as you can see, Erica's in both versions. I'm not sure about the version that aired yesterday, because my timer started when they showed the last shot of the logo. Luckily, my other ABC affiliate airs the previous day's AMC instead of 700 Club and Port Charles, so I timer recorded the first 5 minutes of that, and all of today's episode.
I also timer recorded the first 5 of OLTL and GH yesterday to see if AMC's new opening had anything to do with ABC's new "facelift" this fall, but of course, it didn't lol.
Here is the cast/character order of appearance for each version of the new opening
NOTE: '*' indicates that the two people are shown at the same time, in an inside spread kind of way.

I really enjoy the brand new opening; the music is a little more upbeat than the most recent version. I don't know, I just like it; I've heard the original version of the brand new one, and like JT said, it's a mix, of sorts; I like it. It reminds me of the good ole days. I don't follow regularly anymore, I basically just catch it when I can on SOAPnet.

Is Joe Martin in the opening credits? I don't recall seeing him in either one.

I like it! The book is back to how it looked in 1990-1994. Except, the backround is no longer a desk, but white... It's awesome. I just love when Kendall is in it!
I finally had the time to add the second opening
NOTE: The '*' still indicates the same thing. The first opening has been modified to exclude Leo, and Bianca takes the place of the inside spread of herself and Kendall, and Kendall take's Leo's old spot. The second opening was modified to exclude Vanessa, and Vanessa and Maggie's inside spread was replaced by Maggie alone.
Micheal E. Knight (Tad Martin)
Rebecca Budig (Greenlee Smythe-duPres)
Kelly Ripa (Hayley Santos)
J. Eddie Peck (Dr. Jake Martin) & Ray McDonnell (Dr. Joe Martin)*
James Mitchell (Palmer Courtlandt)
Jill Larson (Opal Courtlandt)
Elizabeth Hendrickson (Maggie Stone)
Jack Scalia (Chris Stamp)
Marcy Walker (Liza Colby Chandler)
Sam Page (Trey Shepherd)
David Canary (Stuart Chandler)
and
Susan Lucci (Erica Kane)

Well since Susan is in both openings that means shes the Queen of All My Children. i didn't think it looked like her being placed in the back of the book its the front. and in the 1990-1994 one she was placed in the front to.
