LOS ANGELES (The Hollywood Reporter) --- "Swimfan's" Jason Ritter has replaced Brad Renfro and will star opposite Monica Keena in New Line Cinema's horror franchise clash "Freddy vs. Jason."

Ritter and Keena will join Destiny's Child singer Kelly Rowland in the film about a group of friends who team up to spark a battle between the legendary evildoers Freddy Krueger (of "Nightmare on Elm Street" fame) and Jason Vorhees (of the "Friday the 13th" franchise). Robert Englund will reprise his role as Freddy, while the role of Jason has yet to be cast.

Renfro's exit from the project was attributed to creative differences.

"Freddy vs. Jason" is being directed by Ronnie Yu and produced by Sean Cunningham. The script was penned by Mark Swift and Damian Shannon, with revisions by David Goyer. New Line execs Stokely Chaffin and Renee Witt are overseeing for the studio. Production is under way in Vancouver.

Ritter, the son of "Three's Company" and the upcoming ABC sitcom "8 Simple Rules for Dating My Teenage Daughter" actor John Ritter, is onscreen in the nation's No. 1 movie, 20th Century Fox's "Swimfan." His previous credits include "Mumford" and MTV's "Undressed." He is repped by the Burstein Co.

Keena, repped by the Gersh Agency and Handprint Entertainment, was a series regular on Judd Apatow's "Undeclared." Her feature film credits include "Crime and Punishment in Suburbia," "The Simian Line," "Strike!" and "The Devil's Advocate."

It sounds interesting that they are making a "Freddy vs. Jason" movie. I don't know if it will work, considering all the bad Friday the 13th and Nightmare on Elm Street sequels of the past. The two movie series have pretty much worn out their welcome.

So I take it 'Jason in Space' was bad? I figured as much....

Even though I've never seen any Friday The 13th Movies, I think ths movie won't be that good.

First, Jason X is cast WAY in the future, that means that this may also, if it wishes to be counted as a sequel.

Second- When you intertwine TV shows like when you do a spin-off it can be bad sometimes, like Bionic Woman vs six million dollar man. And Frankenstein Meets The Wolfman, it's real lame, so will Superman vs Batman. It's like the trend they had in the 70's making TV shows into animated versions which somehow most of them included the Harlem Globetrotters- The Did it with Happy Days, They did something with Gilligans Island and the Harlem Globetrotters, they did it with star wars and the eewoks.

So, They should Keep Freddy and Jason out of each others nightmares, or else you'll never see another Freddy or Another Friday The Thirteenth, it'll be so trailed through the mud.

Ah well:mad:

The thing that I want to know is what possible creative differences could there have been to keep Renfro out of this movie? It's not like they were filming an Academy Award winning picture?!?

You ever seen those Incredible Hulk reunions? Oh my stars, the first two were so crappy. They started introducing characters in order to make a spin off show. 'Return of the Incredible Hulk' had Thor and 'Trial of the Incredible Hulk' had Daredevil (?) in it. Then of course in 'Death of the Incredible Hulk' David and Hulk died, so that sucked. They could've saved a bunch of time and had one straight reunion. They could've had David Banner cured and that's it.

They did have a Rebirth of the Hulk movie planned, but Bill Bixby died before it could happen.
