why would these two play husband and wife in a different sitcom? is this stupiest thing you ever saw? That's like Sherman Hemsley and Isabel Sanford playing another married couple instead of George and Louise Jefferson. Bill Cosby should really think about what he is doing-don't think he thought about the stupidy ofthis show at all

It just doesn't make sense-I think that is the first time it ever happen in TV-A married couple on one show, and then married on another show-Bill cosby makes me think it would really like to be married to Phylicia Rashad-I know his wife was thinking about that one

What the hell is it with you? You stroll around posting negative remarks about shows you don't like. Why bother if you don't like the show. There's plenty of shows I don't care for, but I don't go to those boards and start ripping them apart.
You're the official weight watcher of TV--you're always posting, this so and so actress has gained weight. You've got issues kid. It's not my problem, but just know that people are taking notice that you're a few fries short of a Happy Meal.

I think Bill and Phylicia Rashad have a chemistry going. I don't see him with anyone else. I liked this show. Doug E Doug and Bill Cosby clicked well. Madeline Kahn was sensational. The cast was a wonderful match.

Still i don't think that ever happen before-two characters who were a married couple on one show and play another married couple on a different sitcom-i just thought that was kind silly

I believe that Bill Cosby decided to do a second show with Phylicia Rashad because he realizes that they had such a unique bonding on camera. I don't blame the man, Phylicia is truly a good actress. She has a lot of credentials. She is: beautiful, great singer, and good with spanish. So you think about it, why settle for less.

It still doesn't make sense. Two people who played a married couple for 8years and then go play another married couple on a different show-Very silly-They should have related that show to the cosby show in some way.

You are absolutely right, but they still look good together on camera.

You know how one dimensional TV executives are. Here was a formula that already was a success why not just do it again. Saves time, money, and imagination.
Luckily, this is an open forum where people can express their opinion?

I agree with you Solomon on this one. I was changing channels randomly the other day and saw this show for the first time and it was weird seeing the same two actors married again but as different characters. I had to do a double take to realize what show I was watching. If they were so wonderful together, then why not just bring back the original show and maybe tweek it a bit with some new characters?

SOLOMON, obviously Bill liked working with Phylicia from The Cosby Show, is it such a crime that they do another show together? I mean if they were good friends why not. Besides take into consideration that Bill and Phylicia are actors, they may work together again, playing a couple.

i think that Bill and Phylicia are awesome together!!! I think that he thought if they were awesome once together they could probably be good together again.

But SOLOMON, it is sorta weird to have the same wife and husband in 2 different series. Kinda confusing

I must admit that it was difficult at first to get used to the pair as Hilton and Ruth Lucas, but once you get used to the new names, it works out well, and the two do have good chemistry together.

I actually liked the show and I just couldn't see Bill Cosby with another actress playing his wife.

Ben F. Schumin :-) I agree with you Ben. At first it was kind of funny to see these 2 people tgether again but as I continued watching the show I LOVED it. Phylicia was perfect for Hilton Luca's wife. So much so that I don't even think of him as Dr. Huxtable anymore or she as Mrs. Huxtable. I love it when she is stern with him. They are so funny.

To be quit honest I thought it was strange they he picked her again to play his wife. It's like they went into some witness protection plan and adopted another daughter! I think Telma Hopkins could have played Hilton wife just as well a Phylicia did. She was supposed to play that part before Bill changed his mind.

Actually, I liked the chemistry between Bill and Phylicia in both "Cosby" and the original "Cosby Show." It seems so natural, just like Reginald VelJohnson and JoMarie Payton on "Family Matters."

I am a big fan of Cosby, and I didn't mind that Phylicia Rashad was his wife again. I never thought of them as the "Huxtables".

Actually, they did play a married couple on The Fresh Prince of Bel Air. I don't remember what their names were, but they did make a guest appearance as husband and wife. The episode was with Will and Lisa in couple counseling, and the couples started hitting each other with those toy bats. Does anyone remember that?

They actually reprised their Jeffersons roles in 2 episodes.

Sherman also previously played a judge in a couple other Fresh Prince episodes.

I know this topic is old :)

I just wanted to say actually Isabel and Sherman did a play a different couple than Weezy and George on a guest starring role on Lois and Clark: The New Adventures of Superman.

I think what it is is sometimes there's just that one person you just "click" with. Bill and Phylicia had a great chemistry, and IMO Phylicia is one of the best acting partners Bill will ever have, same with Sherman, Isabel was his best acting partner he ever had, that's why Sherman and Isabel went on to do Denny's commericals and guest starring appearances together.

I hope that makes sense :)

Yeah but Sherman and Isabel didn't do another SITCOM with different character names-LOL

The problem was that Cosby and Telma Hopkins did not have any chemistry together and that was why Phylicia was asked to play Cosby's TV wife. I did not like the show but the chemistry was still there between them. Their characters on Cosby was far different than Cliff and Clair Huxtable.

If you're looking at the show based soley on the actors who are playing the characters, you're not looking at the show properly. For those who are really true fans of the Cosby Show, you don't look at the show based on Phyicia and Bill. You look at it based on Cliff and Clair. When I watch Cosby, I don't see Phyicia and Bill, I see Ruth and Hilton. I don't compare and contrast the two shows. I see the chemistry that the characters have on the respective shows and I appreciate it. The characters on the two shows are very different even though the actors are working together again as a married couple. Is it the first time such a thing has been done. Yes. However, the majority of people didn't seem to have a problem with it. Personally, I enjoyed the show quite a bit.

I liked the show, not as much as I liked TCS though. I thought it might have been better if another actress played Hilton's wife but Phylicia didn't annoy me as much on this show as she did on TCS. I liked Madeline Kahn the best though. She was a great comic actress.

yeah, she kinda annoyed me too. it seems alot of late 90's sitcoms had the wife be the know-it-all and the husband got dumped on. It's funny once in a while, but not all the time. Just my opinion folks.

I have to agree with you on this one. Bill Cosby and Phylicia Rashad do have a
great chemistry, and I think each show can stand on its own merits. THE
COSBY SHOW was a tough act to follow, and to do anything remotely good is
comparable to when Paul McCartney left The Beatles and formed the new band
Wings.

Since they both did another show together as a married couple, that means the Cosby Show should have stayed on until Rudy went to College-lol So the Cosby would have ended in 1996 instead of 1992

I always thought it was cheating - creatively speaking - to have Bill and Phylicia once again playing husband and wife.

I remember thinking: What is the angle of this show...Cliff and Clair go slumming??

Makes you wonder why did the Cosby Show end in 92 if Bill and Phylicia starred in another show together-lol The Cosby Show could have ran until 96

I'm guessing that maybe they couldn't find someone else and Phylicia took the offer because she probably wasn't working.

Actually, it really is Cliff and Clair Huxtable. They went into witness protection after Denise returned and went on a killing rampage. That show didn't have the staying power of the old Cosby - I think it got cancelled after four seasons.

LOL. yeah it only lasted for four seasons, which was what CBS agreed with from the start.

Telma Hopkins was initially supposed to play his wife Ruth, but due to "lack of chemistry" they booted her. They decided on Phylicia b/c she could ad-lib along w/him, and Telma was more of a "traditional" actress.
She actually was pretty busy. She was in two movies that were released in '96, and she had been in productions of "Blues For An Alabama Sky" before and during her run in "Cosby." She's always been in theatre.
