i have watched 3 episodes of welcome back kotter and i noticed how bad the show is. The only good episode was the pilot-which is the case with all unsucessful shows. Also if a show is based on high school students-it shouldn't be a lot of scences with the teacher at home with his wife. I don't remember seeing that on highschool shows like-"CITY GUYS, HEAD OF THE CLASS,

Well, a lot of us remember wbk fondly and think it's a very good show. Just not your type of entertainment, I spose.

I think the main thing that turns me off about it isthat it's a lot of unnecessary goofiness-humor is okay-but extreme silliness is a little overboard-The pilot was a good episode but the episodes that TV LAND have been showing in the last 2 weeks are not funny at all

The show was great & really funny. Alot of the good old shows like that that I love to watch are kinda dumb or silly but that's the beauty of it. It's a good kind of silly & not the stupid kind of silly like alot of todays shows are... :)

*stomps* NO NO NO! why do they keep doing this? I have all the episodes on tape but one! I sat with a calendar and a list of the shows and figured out when it would be on if they kept up this schedule (early November) and they are going to take it off just before the episode i need.

Man, that is bad. They always do that before you need an episode. I don't have any on video cuz we don't have cable out here int he coutnry & they started scrambling it so we can't get it on our big satellite dish anymore unless we can get a descrambler for it which we haven't been able to find cheap yet... I like your Monkees pic! I love them too as well as Travolta. :)

Every episode i tried to tape i usually ended up hitting the stop button because the show was inside Mr. Kotter's house too long. That is when the show was not interesting. Should have never been at Kotter's apartment for a long period of tie.

Thanks! I got it from www.ninetimesblue.com

I hope you can find a cable descrambler soon, I don't know what I would do without TvLand and Nick @ nite (even if they do make me mad  :)) I didn't tape the episodes I have, I bought them off from Ebay. (I don't have enough patience to record for an entire weekend)

Cool Monkees link! :) I remember watching the MONKEES & KOTTER when they were origionally on tv & the Sat morning re-runs in the late 60's & 70's & re-runs in the 70's on a UHF station in another part of the state. Kotter re-runs were on in the early 8-'s before vcr's so I have no KOTTER videos. :( I did have at one time some audio cassettes of the MONKEES & KOTTER that I taped off the tv as they didn't have vcr's back then. Very creative teenager!

Oh yeah, speaking of Barbarino, they had a thing on ENTERTAINMENT TONITE last nite about Travolta & Olivia Newton-John doing a GREASE reunion. Woo-hoo Barbarino is still HOT! :)

I think it was 1978. If I'm wrong someone will correct me I'm sure. I remember seeing it origionally in themovie theatre & getting trhe soundtrack album & getting the 45 of YOU'RE THE ONE THAT I WANT by Travolta & Olivia Newton-John...

yes, it was in 78. In 77 he made "Saturday night fever" & it became a big hit, but he still did WBK for a few episodes. Then, he left it and made GREASE. After that became a big hit, he made a film called "Moment to Moment" w/Lily Tomlin. When that bombed, he made another film with Olivia Newton-John, and that bombed, and it wasn't until the 90s that his film career took off again.

From the sounds of it-He should have stayed away all together and just focused on film-making instead of popping in the WBK show and then popping out again-and then in again.

Grease came out summer of 78. Saturday Night Fever was out about a year before that.

There were a lot of scenes with just Kaplan at home because he was a comedian. Kind of like Seinfeld.

"WBK" was also loosely based on what really happened to Gabe Kapan in high school. He really went to a high school like that, and after graduation became a comedian.

None of Kaplan's jokes on the show were funny.

I agree that Kaplan was not that funny on the show. I don't understand why he told so many corny, humorless jokes. Personally I never heard any of his standup, so I don't know how funny he really was. But he did gain stardom as a comedian.

I don't think he was the appeal of the show. It was John Travolta. He was hilarious as Barbarino.

Although she wasn't my favorite character, I'll admit, Judy could be pretty funny. Actually, her name was B-O-R-D-E-N

I read somewhere that Helaine is an acting teacher with brother Michael in L.A. now. Their father Harvey founded the Harvey Lembeck Comedy Workshop and that's where they work.

here's the link.

Even though I love WBK, I think Gabe was a awful comedian.
