Dislike Avril?

Seems like everyone on here likes avril, including me. Is there anyone here that doesnt like her?

I wouldn't say that I dislike her, hey, she's guttsy enough to put herself out there but I wonder how long she can last. I gather from what she says and how she acts that she's full of herself and might be too stubborn to realize her shortcomings before it's too late. Someone posted that she sang terrribly at a live venue and she should consider getting a voice coach. Maybe she has one, I don't know, but if she doesn't it's probably due to her stubborness. Kind of a "I don't need no frickin' voice coach" attitude. I'll make a comparison to Leann Rhymes. She came onto the scene in country music at the age of 14. But she could and can REALLY sing. Her stage presence and how she has conducted herself in interviews has always been very mature and unpretentious Avril is playing the rebel character by wearing funny hats, and cutsie-pie tee-shirts and sticking her tounge out frequently. All of that will loose its charm. Also, she seems to be insisting on using mostly or all of her own or actually co-written lyrics for her songs. Give her credit for writing anything but as someone else said, "I'm a girl, he's a boy"-- umm, gee?

She's not fake. She can dress however she wants to dress, that shouldn't be fake. If I wanted to turn gothic, punk, prep, than I could do that, she just picks what clothes she likes that doesn't make her fake. I kind of like her songs but at times I think she can be a little offensive...I also don't think she has the best attitude, like in her video complicated her and her friends crash a mall and make it difficult for the people working there, its one thing to hate some preps who are mean to other people but to do things to annoy people who are working at a job isn't the best thing, imo.

Avril sang her two popular songs at the start of the show from the balcony above Times Square. Just after she sang, Bruce Springsteen sang. Springsteen sang as well as he has on any recording you've ever heard. Later in the night Cheryl Crow sang. She also sang beautifully, and I was hypnotized watching and listening to her. Avril's singing was off key and--I'll be gentle--lifeless, unimpressive. We've talked about her live performances before. She'd better work on her "true" singing ability if she hopes to stay around for awhile.

I do not know enough about Avril to say flat out that I dislike her. The only song of hers that I have heard is Complicated, which no matter what my opinion of the artist is, Complicated is a good catchy tune.

However, I will say my opinion of Avril is not the greatest, being as she is not a good live performer, and she does seem to have too much of an attitude. Wishing that Christina Agulera was dead (which according to somebody's signature around here is a lyric in one of her songs) is not punk, it's just silly and rude, and something I would expect much more from a rap artist. And I agree with what Kitt said, all the sticking out of tongues and other antics may be refreshing now, but they will get old quick.

Lastly, I can say that the attitude and behavior of some of Avril's fans (especially those on this thread) are certainly not going to incline me to warm up to her anytime soon. Avril is becoming Nancy McKeon's obsession replacement around here, and I'm getting really really sick of having to look at her face in everyone's signatures. To each their own.....I just hope we don't get an Avril Cult on our hands.

I was the one with that Christina Aguilera quote in my signature, I took it out. That is NOT a lyric in any of her songs, she said that in an interview, ugh why would she mention the slob in any of her songs. Yeah right, you should have asked me where the quote came from rather than making up that it's like a rap artist with a lyric in her song, that was once again in an interview. I'm sorry if you don't like her but you shouldn't go disrespecting her like that making up false details, and yes I do have a picture of her in my signature and there is nothing wrong with that. Oh one more thing, she did not wish Christina Aguilera dead or else I would have thought that she was sick, yet again another false accusation. She said "Christina Aguilera? I thought that whore died!" not wishing her dead, she hasn't had anything out in a while so she was making a joke.

Avril DIDNT wish that whore was dead nor did she sing it. And everyone here plays hockey as well. And her musics not all POP. its like... i dont know. it seems to be a mix. Unwanted and Losing Grip seem to have like this kind of heavyer sound or something then sk8er boi is all kinda blink 182 ish then songs like... well those slower ones are like... u know the songs off the punk albums that are slower than all the rest that usually dont get promoted as much. shes got her own style and that kicks ass. I also like heavy metal music (yeah i know strange mix but w/e). I dont care if u guys dont like her.

Good point. To be honest with you, I knew something odd was going on around here. Long ago it was Nancy's name being dropped in the posts and Nancy in the sigs, and now it seems that the Nancy obsession has disappeared. Which I can understand. If I am obsessed over an actor for awhile, I tend to get sick of them after a few months.

This is why there is no winning: I, in my admitted ignorance of Avril, mistakenly attributed her Christina quote to a song. EXCUSE ME! Now, if I had actually known it was from an interview (which you for some reason felt the need to mention twice). then you all would have said "if you hate her so much how come you know it's from an interview?"

I get sick of people's attitudes around here when it comes to sticking up for their favorite celebrity. I never said I hated Avril, yet you all assume I do. I merely said that at this point in time, until I have a chance to hear more of her music and know more about her, that my opinion leans towards the not liking side, but that it is open to change. well first of all, I dont care what you think, second of all, I dont lie because my friends cousin hooked up with Evan from the band when they were freshman in high school(dead serious), and even though that was before the band, shes met avril and is friendly with her and is going meet her again when she comes in a few weeks and she knows shes not or was a loser, and last but most important HOCKEY IS NOT A STUPID SPORT!!!!!!!!!!! whatever I dont even like her that much and I never said I was obsessed...dude so back off

I was telling you not to make assumptions like that if you don't even know her such as saying that was a lyric in her song, you stated that yet you had no idea if it was. I wasn't saying anything rude when I said I had the quote in my signature so I don't know why you are having an attitude about that all I said was "I had the Christina Aguilera quote in my sig, I took it out." Then when she accepted her award came the now infamous "Kelly Clarkson Hug Incident".Presentor Kelly Clarkson gave her the award and then TRIED to hug Avril and congradulate her but Avril seemed as though she really didn't want any part in a hug.

I've heard bits and pieces about snubbing people and fans. I'm not going to say much about that, except don't expect to last long if you snub. The fans buy the cds, the posters, all that good stuff so it would just be respectful to sign an autograph here and there. It doesn't matter if you think in your head that you wished this fan would go take a flying leap somewhere. Just grin and sign your name.

I don't know though. Maybe Avril was really having a rough night or she was bored? I know if I have to go somewhere and sit through a ceremony for about 2 or 3 hours, I would be impatient to get it over with too. Maybe Avril and I think on the same wavelength about the long ceremonies bits.

I won't say anymore because I know we have numerous Avril fans on the board.

Perhaps I should not have made the assumption it was a lyric in a song, (does it really matter that much anyway? If you say not to make up a lie to someone, you're saying that they are a liar, and would be devious enough to say something untruthful about someone or something in order to make their point. I'm not one of the rudest, if you knew me as a person you wouldn't think that either. I didn't exactly see where this topic was marked. Hell, I just assumed it was for everybody. If you dislike Avril you get the chance to speak your mind and explain why you don't like her. If you like her, you can explain why you like her.

I understand not everybody is going to agree on one certain thing. We'll have the people that like her in one line, and the people that dislike her in another line. We all have our opinions, and that's the way it should be.

She may squak about me being rude to her, but I have carried this conversation in a relatively calm manner without making personal attacks on her, which she has done to me. I admit that perhaps I am acting more immature than I should, but I was not the person to make the first rude comment.

That's the main thing I was arguing about too. I don't care who anybody likes or hates, I just thought it was rude for people that like Avril to keep dissing the ones that aren't too fond of her.

Bootsy, you did the right thing. You spoke your mind. That is a lot better than keeping quiet. I can imagine all the people that read this thread and wanted to post something, but didn't get involved. The ones that did speak what they had to say about the behavior I applaud them.
