I've heard of it; it's from 1960, by Ray Peterson.
I would add "Ebony Eyes," by the Everly Bros. (1961) and "Alone Again (Naturally)," by Gillbert O'Sullivan (1972).

What becomes of the brokenhearted? Who had love thats now departed? I know I've got to find, some kind of piece of mine, baby.....I LOVE that song.
These songs for some reason make me cry-
"Dreaming of You" by Selena (RIP)
"Arms of the Angels" by Sarah McCoughlin (title?) It's something like that
"Hero" by Mariah Carey
Anything from the 3 Titanic Soundtracks. They are instrumental, but the slow ones make me bawl. Especially "The Portrait"

Crying - Roy Orbison
In Dreams - Roy Orbison
If you just had a rough break up, do not listen to these songs. Hell, I didn't just break up but half the time I listen to them I end up breaking down to tears. You can *feel* the pain in his voice. An absolutely amazing singer.

OK I can see how "Goodbye To You" can make you cry but "All You Wanted"? How does that make you cry?
Somes that make me sad:
"Goodbye To You" by Michelle Branch
"Dreaming of You" by Selena
"Wind Beneath My Wings" by Bette Midler
"From A Distance (God Is Watching Us)" by Bette Midler (it really made me sad after the September 11 tragedy)
"Land Slide" by Fleetwood Mac

Yeah, I forgot those two. Especially "Crying." (From 1961.) You're right Roy did have a great voice. Did you know that once Elvis was asked which male vocalist he thought had the best voice and he said "Roy Orbison?"

Beatles: The Long and Winding Road
David Lanz: Before the Last Leaf falls, sacred road, dreamer's waltz, A path with heart, leaves on the seine, beloved
-I just thought I would mention him. He's not a singer, he's more of an instrumentalist pianist, like John Tesh. But these songs are really sad but also very uplifting. He's a very talented composer.
Christopher Cross: Think of Laura
-I love Christopher Cross. And for some reason I aways think of Dana Plato when I hear this song. Christopher Cross really has a beautiful voice and this song sometimes makes me cry. Check it out, every time I hear it I just replace Laura with Dana though. :)
I'm sure I can think of more later.

I believe it. Elvis was great, but there was just something to Roy that was just pure magnificence.
He could bring you up with one song, and completely bring you down with another.
Glad someone here has heard of him. :)
If you're into DVDs, they just released "Black and White Night". It looks and sounds absolutely beautiful, as if it were just recorded today. They did a great job cleaning that disc up.

Diamonds and Rust and Nicola and Bart both by Joan Baez.
Diamonds and rust:
Well I'll be damned
Here comes your ghost again
But that's not unusual
It's just that the moon
is full
And you happened to call
And here I sit
Hand on the telephone
Hearing a voice I'd known
A couple of light years ago
Heading straight for a
fall
As I remember your eyes
Were bluer than
robin's eggs
My poetry was lousy you said
Where
are you calling from?
A booth in the midwest
Ten years
ago
I bought you some cufflinks
You brought me
something
We both know what memories can bring
They
bring diamonds and rust
Well you burst on the
scene
Already a legend
The unwashed phenomenon
The original vagabond
You strayed into my arms
And
there you stayed
Temporarily lost at sea
The Madonna
was yours for free
Yes the girl on the half-shell
Would keep you unharmed
Now I see you standing
With brown leaves falling around
And snow in your hair
Now you're smiling out the window
Of that crummy
hotel
Over Washington Square
Our breath comes out
white clouds
Mingles and hangs in the air
Speaking
strictly for me
We both could have died then and there
Now you're telling me
You're not
nostalgic
Then give me another word for it
You who are
so good with words
And at keeping things vague
Because
I need some of that vagueness now
It's all come back
too clearly
Yes I loved you dearly
And if you're
offering me diamonds and rust
I've already paid

Out here on my own - Nikka Costa
Sometimes I wonder where I've been
Who I am, do I fit in
Make belivin' is hard alone,
Out here on my own
We're always provin' who we are
Always reachin' for that risin' star
To guide me far and shine me home,
Out here on my own.
When I'm down and feelin' blue
I close my eyes so I can be with you
Oh baby, be strong for me,
Baby, belong to me
Help me through, help me need you.
Until the morning sun appears
Making light of all my fears
I dry the tears I've never shown,
Out here on my own.
When I'm down and feelin' blue
I close my eyes so I can be with you
Oh baby, be strong for me,
Baby, belong to me
Help me through, help me need you.
Sometimes I wonder where I've been
Who I am, do I fit in.
I may not win but I can't be thrown,
Out here on my own, on my own.

Ohio - Neil Young..........lest we forget!!!! :((
Tin soldiers and Nixon coming,
We're finally on our own.
This summer I hear the drumming,
Four dead in Ohio.
Gotta get down to it
Soldiers are gunning us down
Should have been done long ago.
What if you knew her
And found her dead on the ground
How can you run when you know?
Gotta get down to it
Soldiers are gunning us down
Should have been done long ago.
What if you knew her
And found her dead on the ground
How can you run when you know?
Tin soldiers and Nixon coming,
We're finally on our own.
This summer I hear the drumming,
Four dead in Ohio.

Tears In Heaven- Eric Clapton
That is probably THE saddest song. It was about his son who fell out the window of their Manhattan apartment in March 1991.
Another song that comes to mind is Pearl Jam's "Last Kiss", which is about the guy's girlfriend who dies in a car accident.

Considering it was early in his career, he really put a lot of emotion into that
song.
