-----------------------------
The brother-in-law of rapper Snoop Dogg died yesterday after a tense 11-hour
standoff in Las Vegas in which a cop was shot and a hostage managed a daring
escape, police said. Jermaine Fuller fired a shot that grazed the officer in
the temple Monday night after the lawman approached him at a bus stop while
probing a report of a man firing a gun, police said.

Fuller ran to a nearby apartment complex, broke into a unit there and
barricaded himself in - leading to a long standoff with Las Vegas police SWAT
team members. A hostage he was holding managed to escape by jumping out a window
when Fuller
went to get a drink of water, police said. The siege lasted until late
yesterday morning.

Local media reports said police are investigating if Fuller died of a
self-inflicted wound because they say cops did not fire on the apartment during
the standoff. He also may have been wounded during the struggle with the police
officer, who was listed in serious condition at a Las Vegas hospital with a "deep
grazewound."

The 32-year-old lawman was alert and has spoken to his family. Police said that
he also may have been hit in the chest, but was protected by a bullet-proof
vest. During the stand-off, Las Vegas police contacted Snoop Dogg, a Los
Angeles-based rapper whose real name is Calvin Broadus. They asked himto call
them, but it is not known if the call was made.

Fuller is the brother of Snoop Dogg's wife, Shante, his lawyer David Fox said.

Snoop, who admits to living a life of crime in his youth, has himself been
involved in gunplay.

He was charged with being an accessory to murder in connection with an alleged
drive-by shooting in which his bodyguard shot a man while Snoop was driving.

The former gangster-style rapper claimed the shooting was in self-defense and,
with the help of O.J. Simpson lawyer Johnnie Cochran, was acquitted in 1996.

I guess there really is such a thing as "Murder Being the Case" after all!
