Andy hired Ernest T. in what capacity? and why was he fired?

In the later seasons (can't remember which season) Andy hired Ernest T. to be a crossing guard. He wanted to get $12 so he could marry Ramona. He got fired because he kept throwing rocks at passing cars. If I'm not mistaken, I think that was Howard Morris' last episode on the show.
