Andy's wife

I have always watched Andy Griffth Show reruns but I've often wondered what happened to Andy's wife. Was her name ever mentioned?

She was only mentioned in two episodes, the pilot and #58, "Wedding Bells for Aunt Bee." She was referred to as "Ma" in both and neither ep says how she died.

Wasn't she mentioned in the episode when Andy finds out the Peggy the nurse is rich and takes her to a fancy restaurant and upsets the waiter when he orders a draft beer? Peggy asked him if he's ever been somewhere and he says "Me and Marge went up there once." Or maybde it's Madge, but I think Marge.

Good question. Actually, I'm not a Mayberry Maven like some others are, I've just seen the eps many times plus I have a book on the show that is falling apart from use.

The ep is #67 "Andy's Rich Girlfriend" and I had to think about it for awhile, but didn't Peggy order a Sazerac and Andy asked about it and Peg told him it was a cocktail from New Orleans and so was she and asked him if he'd ever been there. The way I remember it is Andy answers something like 'Me and Barn(ey) started out for NO one time but our car broke down in...'

That's how I remember it, but I could be wrong.
