That's right, Gidget is leaving on September 2nd, 2002 on TV Land:( So Start Recording, So you don't miss an Episode! It's being replaced by Happy Days. I don't see why they can't keep the show, they already have Happy Days playing 2 times a day plus they're gonna add one more airing, and no more Gidget. Let's Hope it comes back, on the TV Land Schedule again in November or December! :)

I'm not surprised because there's only 32 episodes. I kind of figured something was up because they only played 31 of the 32 episodes. I didn't expect them to continue showing the episodes for too long.

Kind of unrelated, but what about the Flying Nun? I couldn't check on the TVL website, so do you know if that is staying or going?

Is the fact that Flying Nun and Gidget are going because of the former show's ranking in the TV Guide's Worst of All Time list? (In other words, did TVL think that having Sally Field shows on was a bad idea because of her involvement with one of their Worsts?) Gidget I kind of understand, as we don't want them to go through the entire run numerous times. But not so with FN, as it lasted longer, though I think they went through the series once already.

Anyway, it is still a shame, as I love Gidget and have come to finally know what many others already did, and now respect Sally Field as an actress.

Which led me to wonder about that whole "conspiracy theory" I brought up above. (i.e. it having to do with FN being in TV Guide's Worst Shows list)

I don't think TV Guide's worst show list reflected TV Land to take it off the air, and It's kind of no suprise because their is only 32 episodes, and they aired all of them and I don't think it is no secret that they wouldn't air the small 32 episodes over-and-over, so it was time to take it off.

Yes I always thought that was true. As much as we love Gidget, we'd probably be annoyed by seeing the same episodes over and over. I did get suspicious, however, because I knew that FN was around for more seasons and could have conceivably remained somewhere on the schedule. But now that I think of it they recycled too, so you have a point.

And while I brought up the TVG lists, a brief off topic editorial comment. Is it just me, or does your BS alarm go off too when reading their Top 50 lists? True, they recognize many good shows (or deserving shows in topics other than "the best"), but other than that they mix the classics with a little butt kissing of what is popular or "cool" now. I mean, I don't really watch many current programs, as I tend to be let down by them, but for all I know some of them may actually be good. But not that great to crack the top 10!

And yes, I think Flying Nun didn't deserve to be in the Top 50 Worst. I watch that occasionally after Gidget and I do like it!

The problem with the TV guide online poll is that it was horribly skewed. Buffy got put on mainly it has a very strong fanbase that is well tuned to the internet. Don't get me wrong--I love Buffy and it does have the makings of becoming a television classic right up there with Twilight Zone and the other greats--but right now it's still in progress--so, I don't think it is really proper to judge it--or say, NYPD Blue for that matter, at this time--we need to see first whether it can stand the test of time or not. I honestly think they should have limited their voting to shows that are no longer in production.

I agree with you a lot of these internet polls are misleading. I go to zap2it.com and it's always the same shows that receive the most votes. Buffy is a huge show via the internet/fan support but rating wise, it's not that great.

The Flying Nun will un-pack its bags and will return on TV Land in October! On the TV Land KitSchen!

Here is the October TV Land KitSchen Line-up

12:00am Soap
12:30am Fernwood 2night
1:00am The Flying Nun
1:30am Shazam!

Note: No word on Gidget coming back.

I'm sure Gidget will be back fairly soon. I don't think either Fernwood 2Night or Shazam! had long runs--one...maybe two...seasons tops IIRC. I'm betting we'll see it back--if not by the end of the year, then fairly early next...

In any event, I've been having fun seeing Flying Nun again and am looking forward to Fernwood 2Night--it's been awhile since I've seen it.

Here's an idea--two of them..Have all THREE Sally Field shows (incl. "The Girl with something extra"=which I think Screen Gems did as well as doing "Gidget" & "Flying Nun") or have the original and new (Caryn Richman) Gidget, and even (this would be a first) the Gidget movies, only seraliazed, three or four half hours of all. However, I'd rather see just Sally Field, so the former would work. Actually Flying Nun had three successful seasons, so combinit it with Gidget-that is,alternating it would work..

After seeing the premiere episode, I wonder whether the censors at that time began really keeping an eye on the show or not. That show took quite a bit of risks when you remember that it aired in 1965--it dealt with issues of teenage sexuality and parent-child trust in an almost open manner--the phrasing used in Gidget's diary entry was a very thin veil to cover up the fact that Gidget was writing about sex.

Maybe it did attract closer scrutiny from the censors as I don't remember any of the other episodes dealing with as touchy--for the time--subject matter.
