Archie is my favorite character, not just because he is hilarious, but because he is so REAL to me... in fact, he bears an EERIE resemblance to my grandfather, who was born in 1923 in Chicago. He and Archie are around the same age and have the same economic background (except that my grandfather is a JEWISH bigot!). They also have the same "winning" personality, similar accent and vocabulary, and both "pretend" to be mean old men and not let the world know the truth: that deep inside they really love their families and friends and have HUGE hearts! http://www.sitcomsonline.com/ubb/smile.gif

Edith Bunker will always be my favorite character. I will always know her as Archie's Little Dingbat.

Archie, because there is no other who can be so outspoking, even though he doesn't know what he's speaking about...

It's a close tie between Archie and Edith, but I'd have to say Archie. How can you not love those facial expressions? He also reminds me of my grandfather, and we always called my grandfather, "Archie". I think the top 3 sitcom characters of all time are
1. Archie
2. Edith
3. Lucy

No one has made me laugh more than Carroll O'Connor, Jean Stapleton and Lucille Ball.

I would say Archie, what an amazingly written and acted character he was!!
And certainly the interaction between Archie and Mike was incredible...My other favorite would be Gloria, but for an entirely different reason... I was about 11 or 12 when the show debuted, and I gotta tell ya, when Gloria had that long blond, blond, hair for a couple of seasons...wow, major crush right there! I don't think she was quite on par with the others as far as acting ability, but in them there tight jeans, who cares? She was a babe :-)

Archie, because his dumb philosphies made the show worth watching.

Archie. Although he has so many faults, I still can't help but love him.

I would say Lionel,( when he was a charactor on All In The Family) and Archie. Lots of laughs when Lionel played along with Archies bigot statements.

Lionel was always funny, and of course I loved Mike and Archie, when they get into arguments, so they're also my favs

Carroll O'Connor was THE best. His line delivery, the pause he makes before coming out with a good one. Ever watch him when some else is talking? Too funny...

I have to say Archie was my favorite character, however I disliked his views.

I think that through Archie Bunker, all of America could see just how silly it was to be a racist or have other bigoted views. This show was breaking ground because it forced many people to examine their views on race, ethnicity, religion, and gender. Because Archie did not just hate blacks, he hated anyone who was not a White Anglo-Saxon Protestant, he also felt that women should not work.

Norman Lear was actually showing America just how stupid racism and sexism really was. He did this by making Archie's next door neighbor black, making Mike's best friend (Lionel Jefferson) black, and making Edith's best friend (Liberal and Independent).

Edith is my absolute favorite character. I think she is funnier than Archie because she delivers really odd lines sometimes. My favorite Edith moment is the first Archie's Missing episode and she's throwing a tupperware party and she is about to say to the guests "I welcome you with open arms" when she sees Charlotte Rae's character picking her nose. She then screws up by saying, "As your hostess for this evening, I welcome you with open noses." That line cracks me up no matter how many times I see it.
