What's everyone's opinion on the Scooby-Doo movie?
It went on general release in the UK on Friday and the critics gave it a complete mauling! So far, just about every screening has been sold out though so it seem like another 'Pearl Harbour' type case - the critics hate it but the public love it.
I'm going to see it tomorrow.
I've seen loads of ads and previews and I'm undecided as to whether it'll be any good or not.
The guy who plays Shaggy (Matthew Lillard) and the lassie who plays Velma (Linda Cardellini) look really cool - they have the mannerisms and the voices of their characters down perfectly. But the other two seem pretty crap. And the less said about the CGI Scooby the better!
I'll tell y'all what I think about it when I get back tomorrow but what did you all think?

Yeah, I know their names - I just couldn't be arsed typing 'em.
I'm not keen on those two anyway. Well, I guess Sarah-Michelle is a bit of alright but Freddie Prinze Jr. does my head in!

Hmmmmmm it was alright. Kinda dumb though, in my opinion. The ending is kinda....... blah-ish

Well, I saw it this afternoon but I'm still not entirely sure of my opinion of it. It wasn't as bad as some of the reveiws said it was but then it wasn't brillaint either. I think 'mediocre' is probably the word that best describes it.
Matthew Lillard and Linda Cardellini were excellent. Lillard was just amazing - I mean he was Shaggy! But as for the "other two"...I didn't expect much from Prinze Jr. (like I said, he just bugs me) but I thought that Sarah-Michelle Gellar would've been ok. Her performance was pretty so-so aswell.
I mean, I know it's a kiddie movie but some bits were just so juvenile that it wasn't even funny. Like when Shaggy and Scooby were having a farting contest - I just didn't find that amusing at all. Although that may just be a sign that I'm getting old cos all the kids in the audience were laughing their heads off!
To my mind, kids films should obviously keep the children amused but there should also be a decent amount of jokes aimed at the adults too but 'Scooby-Doo' just didn't have enough of 'em.
The movie earns HUGE bonus points for finally giving Scrappy-Doo exactly what he deserves. I hated Scrappy when I was wee cos when he came into the cartoons Fred, Daphne and Velma left (which bugged me cos Velma was, like, my second favorite character). How scary did Scrappy look right at the end though?! Man, that freaked me out!!

Anyhoo, it wasn't high art or anything but it was a decent enough way to spend a Sunday afternoon and I reckon I'll buy the DVD when it comes out.
I grew up watching the Scooby cartoons and I would've been pretty upset if this movie had destroyed all my precious childhood memories but I think it stayed pretty close to the original feel of the show. If I had to give it a score I'd probably have to say, um.......... 7 out of 10.
