As e-mailed to me:
Could you tell me if Archie ever owned a dog, and if so what was the dog's breed and his name. Thank you, Gary

Arechie never owned a dog throughout the series. The neighbor, Barney Hefner, owned a dog that never got along with Archie.
However, several references were made to Arthur the Cat, which the Bunker's owned when Gloria was little.

Archie played around with a dog in the episode, "Archie's Dog-Day Afternoon". That's all that I remember of there being a dog on the show.

The only pet Archie would tolerate was a goldfish.
And even though they had Arthur the Cat years before, Archie was on the record as hating "his fish eating guts."

I remember in the episode where the Bunkers and Stivics flashback to the planning of Mike and Gloria's wedding. Edith telling Mike's uncle Casimere about Gloria playing with Arthur. He asked if that was another child and Archie said no Arthur was a dirty little cat. "Arthur used to scratch anyone who would yell at Gloria, We had to keep alot of iodine around for Archie."
I love that scene.
It makes me laugh everytime i hear it.

Yeah i also remembering that Archie hated the Hefner's dog too.
He also had a problem when Wilma, the Jefferson's dog, ate the footlong hotdogs that Archie was supposed to get back.
He's not a dog or cat person.
lol...

The episode where it's Archie's 50th birthday, Archie says that one of the reasons he was depressed about being 50, was because he never rode a horse, so, he must've liked horses
