Basically, Michael Nesmith simply wants to be taken seriously. He has reunited with the others for very special occasions, but for the most part stays away from Monkee-related events. He has been quite busy since the demise of the Monkees, and has numerous accomplishments. You can check some of them out here:

Well, he's not half as bad as tina louise is. She flat out refuses it. I take mike seriously. He is a great songwriter, performer, singer, writer, etc. And I luv 'im. But I can see why he shys away from it all. If I had been a monkee (hah hah) I would only tour as long as it was fun--and it made people happy--but only if I were happy, too.

I always thought Mike was pretty cool! In fact...when me and my friends would 'play Monkees'...I always had to be someone OTHER than Mike, 'cause one guy was real tall and had the only wool hat around!

the way i see it is that hes just too darn subborn i mean no one is asking him to re join the band for good! there only asking him to do one or two lousy conserts with them! is that too much to ask?!! i think not besides what are the monkees some kind of joke to him or something i mean he needs to just let go of the past and just do it!

If it wasn't for Mike Nesmith, we wouldn't have music videos. He is the pioneer. KUDOS MIKE!!!!
He is obviously too busy with other projects to want to deal with this. Besides, the members weren't taken seriously before, so why should he be bothered with it now that he has succeeded at many things. It's almost like he is saying "screw you" (not to the other members mind you) but to those who thought they had nothing to offer.
There was a time when Mike did join the guys for something, am I right?

yeah well maybe but the way i see it all is that mike should have made a little more effert in to joining the monkees on some of there tours i mean everything i read about the monkees it always seems to say without mike nesmith i know hes a busy guy now that hes doing stuff on his own good for him but i just feel that he just doesn't care anymore or something i mean even when they all did justus he only sung like one lousy song on it now i know that he did do that tv show with them and believe me that was a big shocker for me! i'm sorry but i just feel that hes work is way more importanted than his friends!

If they are truly his friends, then FRIENDS RESPECT FRIENDS DECISIONS.
I know the rest of the guys do respect Mike and don't feel any grudge or resentment against him. Mickey once did an interview where he stated words to this effect. He respected Mike's decisions on anything he decided. Friends do that.

i really don't think friendship comes into play with the monkees anymore i just read that davy jones has no plans to ever rejoin the monkees anytime soon! so i guess there free to do whatever they want now so it doesn't really matter anymore if mike joins them or not! and i was really sorry and kinda sad to hear all that stuff but oh well as one band member used to say being in a band is kind of like marriage you meet you get together for a really long time or you don't it all depends on how long you can stand each other! and i think thats a very good point!

So, it's ok for Davy Jones to not want to have anything to do with the Monkees anymore, but when Mike didn't want to have anything to do with them, it was an issue??? Same difference?

Not trying to win anything. Just merely pointing out why it's ok if Davy doesn't want to have anything to do with the group "it's fine"...but if Mike doesn't, the world will come to an end for his fans.

 ok i'm just going to get my last two cents in then i'm shuting up about it! i don't care anymore weather or not davy rejoins them or not heck i probley have a better chance of the beatles getting back together (all four of them!) i'll always be a big monkees fan and i guess i don't need them to get back together for me to be one! so there
