Overrated musicians, artists, bands?

There are a lot of bands and the like that get way too much credit for what they've done musically. Like....

Nirvana: The biggie, since everyone gets really defensive when I mention this. People worship Kurt Cobain, which is absurd, since he was a depressed drud addict. You know, there are so many other people in this world who have way worse problems than he EVER had. Who cares if he destroyed hair metal, somebody else would of done it sooner or later. Deeper meaning within his songs? Yeah, "Smells Like Teen Spirit", is essentially about deodorant. Pearl Jam's "Jeremy" is much more powerful. End of Nirvana rant.

The Rolling Stones: I find them very uninteresting. I'd choose The Beatles over the Stones ANY day. Besides, Mick Jagger is surprisingly annoying.

Bob Dylan: Could any other person's voice be that bad? The man's a great song writer, but he can't do them for himself. Example: "All Along the Watchtower", a Dylan song given to Jimi Hendrix. Just think of Dylan doing that song. Ick.

Sting: Ack, pooh! reunite with Copeland and Summers and actually make good music again!

Other band, artists I think are overrated, but don't want to delve into....

Pink Floyd
The Strokes ( I love em', but they ARE)

Have you ever listened to the lyrics of "Smells like Teen Spirit"? It's not about deodorant. It's more about teenage angst.
I do agree that Pearl Jam is a superior band. BTW: Eddie Vedder is a drug addict, too. Pretty heavy, too. I knew him and used to talk to him a bit, but that's another story. So, don't put down a band just 'cause their front man does drugs.

I totally respect your opinion. And it's true, a lot of bands, bands that I love, have or are doing drugs. It's kind of sad, in a way. I just don't understand why they worship the guy like he's the messiah of rock n roll. Like you said, there are many superior bands and songwriters. :)

Oh, and Britney Spears isn't overrated...she just sucks.

Nirvana is VERY over-rated. I can't stand to hear them on the radio, now that Courtney LoveHole has got her grubby mitts over
their song catalog. I like them, but all this musical politics--and especially all this highbrow GRUNGE ATTITUDE drives me crazy. I am a big defender of "Hair" metal, they didn't take stuff seriously, except for having fun and shredding on guitar. Kurt No-Brain didn't kill hair metal, he killed HIMSELF.

I mean her songs have lots of meaning and are catchya nd all but i mean... shes not a rock star... so people need to stop dressing like her just to be punk... i mean i see SO many girls in hotpants, tanktops with a packwards had on and a tie in the record stores buying like... ashanti CDs. it scares me. but thats ok, i can spot them a mile away, and beat them up too. BTW dont take this as an Avril is poser thing... it isnt;/ its just all her die hard fans are.
