Well, with the second season finale still fresh in my mind, I have to ask any fans of "Ed" one simple question:

What went wrong with season two?

The charm and wit of the first season was gone, replaced by many episodes that had soap opera like elements.
Of course, the whole Carol/Dennis storyline was a mistake, I am sure that was a big reason behind the downward slide of the show, but I just have this gnawing feeling that something else was missing this season...

Anyone have any thoughts?

I only watched about 10 of season 2 episodes so i don't think i'm a good judge of what went wrong. I was bored this season. I think if Ed writers don't get their act together, the show will not get picked up for a 4th season.

Part of what i think went wrong is the fact that they didn't know what they wanted to do with the characters this season. They developed warren's character, where in the first season he didn't do that much. first season it was pretty much ed and carol. well i'm sure the writers figured out that you can only do so much with carol and ed because that gets boring. and plus the writers don't want to have them date each other and then break them up because that would get old. they had to bring in dennis because there has to be a ed-carol triangle. i think next year they will do the opposite, give ed another long term girlfriend.

believe me it's going to get old.

Shhh, don't tell my boss, I try to watch Ed when I'm at work. It's hard for me to follow, because I work in a bar and it gets loud in there. Anyway, I'm kind of tired of the whole sexual tension thing. It's been done to death on so many shows. The lead male and female are friends, they get together, they break up, they get back together when the series is old and tired. YAWN :sleep2:! Why can't Ed and Carol just be friends? What's wrong with that? I kind of like Carol and Dennis together. They should give Ed another girlfriend. I enjoy the court cases. I hope they come up with some good ones next season.

The problem with shows like Ed is that there are only so many ways you can write the script without ending the story (Ed gets the girl) or ruining the story (Ed doesn't get the girl). In the second season, the writers weren't sure what they wanted to do with Carol and Ed. Hence the development of Warren/Jessica/Diane. It will be extremely difficult to develop the characters in an entertaining way this season without being soap-operaish or without messing up the chemistry.
