Hi everyone. I’m organizing a Trivia Night charity event for my local parish. One of the categories I’m trying to have is “Series finales.” I was wondering if anyone knows what the last 4 or 5 lines of the final episode were and what the scene was? Any help you can give me will be great. Thank you in advance.

Steve

The 65th and last episode was "Is This Fort Really Necessary?"; among color episodes probably one of the 3 or 4 best and a classy way for a great show to go out (the next to last show, "Our Brave in F Troop", would likely be my pick as the best color episode).

In the "tag", the troop is performing a drill in camaflouge, and Agarn and O'Rourke have lost track of Parmenter, who was dressed like a tree. Vanderbilt happens by with an ax, noting that he "didn't leave a tree standing!" and Agarn, fearing the worst, starts the 'Storch Shiver' up and begins crying, thinking of putting pieces of the Captain on the fire that winter. Parmenter
then arrives in his tree costume and Agarn says "Captain!" and embraces the tree, and the Captain pats him with one of the branches.

And that's how things ended.

Didn't like the tag myself, but the episode preceding it was great. One of O'Rourke's old rivals came to town with bride-to-be in tow....a former girlfriend of O'Rourke's. He also is an efficiency expert with the authority to shut Fort Courage down. Very good episode (well plotted even for a mainstream western) but I agree, the tag is not what you'd want to remember the show by.

The tag for "Our Brave In F Troop" was much better.

I just can't believe the Capital and Jill wouldn't get married in the finale.

...But to the post above that quotes the tag in "Is this Fort really Neccesary?" is full of it. The final line is "This Man's Army needs only one F-troop" as uttered by the inspector who gave the original order to replace F-Troop. Are these boards for real? did I register just to be on some crappy mailing list?

Sorry, sir, but you are mistaken. You are thinking of the episode "How to be F Troop without Really Trying?" which is in fact the second episode of the final season, and originally aired Sept. 15, 1966.

"Is This Fort Really Necessary" has the tag I mentioned, and was the final original episode to air, on April 6, 1967.

Jason, good to hear from you! Hope you completed the collection!

By the way, latest news I hear is that we should have Season One of F Troop complete on DVD from Warner Video within the next 12 months! (fingers crossed, hoping)
