I don't know about the rest of you, but I never felt Wilson fit into "Home Improvement". I just didn't think his role of next door neighbor fit the mold of the show (which I thought was Tim Taylor's family and "Tool Time").

IMHO they should have had Wilson guest in a handful of episodes, at most. I mean, Cousin Oliver was a better fit for TBB than Wilson was for HI, at least I thought so.

Hmm, I see what you mean about him now "fitting the mold" But I always liked Wilson. He was kind of the impartial third party. I know I wish I had a Wilson to go talk to about all my problems. We really learned more about Tim from what he told Wilson and what he told Wilson was NOT what he would have told Al or Jill or anyone.
I didnt like it in the last few seasons though when he became more major of a character. The once an episode over the fence talks were plenty.

I agree there, Titiania...
Wilson had this almost "mythical" quality when he was puttering around in his yard, doing some sort of mysterious project, his face hidden from the audience.
In later episodes, when he was out and about his face hidden by some hanging pot or floral arrangement, the joke had gotten out of control...
Hey, wouldn't have been cool if they had kept Wilson in his yard throughout the run of the show, with him only interacting with Tim, then in the finale it was revealed that Wilson was just some figment of Tim's imagination, his conscience talking to him aloud...
The imaginary Father figure that Tim never had...
Spoooooky..

I thought he fit in fine. He was the strange but loveable friend next door that Jill and Tim went to for advise. And sometimes the kids went to get advice from him.

I think you're very right in that- when you think about it, Wilson WAS the father figure Tim didnt have. Maybe thats why he talked to him about EVERYTHING and anything. I dont know about the figment of him imagination part even tho that would have been hilarious.....
wow, we're getting DEEP here!

Think about it Titania, wouldn't that have been a really cool way to wrap up the show?

Certainly would have been a great surprise twist in the finale..

Yeah, maybe I'm going to deep here...

Wilson couldn't be a figment of Tim's imagination, because also Jill and the kids often asked Wilson for advice...

I thought it was funny to see all the new ways they'd find to cover Wilson's face.

I always loved the dynamic w/ Tim and Wilson talking over the fence. I thought it really added a nice feeling to the show.

Wilson was the kind of character in a way that helped out with some of Jill's and Tim's marriage councelers. He was like a therapist in a way.

I thought Wilson fit in well. And he had a funny line every once in a while too.

Yes, and he fed Tim some really good straight lines which he would misquote with hilarious results.

Wilson was one of my favorite characters out of the entire cast:D
