Which of these two bands do you like better? They are both similar because both have female lead singers and everyone else are males. Personally, I love Garbage 100 times more, but that's only because I am a huge Garbage fan; they are my favorite! I love Shirley Manson! :happyface :happyface :happyface

I think Garbage are better than No Doubt. I've been a Garbage fan since the very beginning and I love Shirley (us Scots lassies have to stick together! :D )
No Doubt are ok but they're nowhere near as good as Garbage and Gwen is nowhere near as cool as Shirley.
In fairness though it's a bit daft comparing Garbage and No Doubt cos they both have completely different styles of music.

I like both bands, but I would have to choose No Doubt for this one. I loved most of the songs on their Tragic Kingdom cd, 2 songs on the Return to Saturn cd, and I've liked the two new songs they've done so far from Rock Steady. I like a few of Garbage songs too.

True, they are differnt styles, but how many bands do you see with three men and a woman as their front person/vocalist? I don't know of many, but I could be incorrect in that thought.... :happyface :happyface :happyface

I like them both actually(their music isn't exactly a far stretch from each other)..But I HATE the new No Doubt album, as do most of their old school fans. Garbages best IMO is Version 2.0, No Doubts best is Beacon Street Collection. I think ND needs to go back to their ska/punk influences. Enough of this dancehall crap.
Need I remind everyone: Gwen isn't No Doubt :o

I have the Beacon Street Collection. Total Hate is an awesome song. I hate the song "Underneath it All". That's the one they are playing on MTV now and I just hate it. It's just a boring song.

Total Hate and Snakes are my fav. songs from the record. I find it ironic that the album they wrote/produced/recorded on their own is their best. Its a shame that Eric Stefani left the band..thats what they are lacking. And if he were still in the band, Rock Steady(shall i say pop steady-hey baby, what were they smoking?) would of never happened(even he said he doesnt like it). The one song he did on ROS, "Staring Problem" is the one of the best on the cd.
Ok, enough rambbling.

Seriously though, Garbage is one of the few bands fronted by a woman, whose music I can actually get into. Because most bands with women lead singers do nothing for me. And I'm not talking sexually.;)

I like Garbage much more. Everytime I hear the song Special played on the radio, I turn it up full blast. I also like the fact that Shirley Manson sounds so much like Chrissy Hynde from The Pretenders, who I also love! Everytime I hear a new Garbage song on the radio, I always think it's Chrissy Hynde. I have a feeling that Chrissy was a huge influence on Shirley growing up.
I do like alot of No Doubts older stuff like Spider Webs, and Don't Speak, but there newer stuff is way too mainstream, and trendy for my taste.

You are exactly right -- Chrissy was perhaps Shirley's biggest musical influence. She has spoken of the time she was so excited to meet her, and felt like she made a complete ass of herself. And in the beautifulgarbage album, Shirley thanks Chrissy for being such an influence. :happyface

That definitely doesn't surprise me. The very first time I heard a Garbage song, I noticed the similarities between Shirley and Chrissy both lyrically, as well as musically.
Hopefully one day Chrissy will make a guest appearance on a Garbage album. That would be cool!

That would be great! Although I highly doubt that will happen this time around. Garbage are almost finished recording their as-of-yet-to-be-titled fourth album, and anticipate a February, 2004 release date. Can't wait!

I'd say she's more a poor man's Deborah Harry or Chrissie Hynde. I see comparisons with those 2 (especially vocally) a lot more than with Gwen

it's mostly the voice that really makes me do the comparison with Deborah Harry. In some of the songs, you think you are listening to recent Blondie

Version 2.0 was a GREAT album, "Push It," "I Think I'm Paranoid," "Special," are all classics. But after that album everything went downhill. Yet, No Doubt keeps giving us great music non-stop.
