well,my daughter has seen all the E.T. commercials, his picture on cookie packages, cracker packages.....finally said "Mommy,I want to see E.T."(she's 3) I said "well,we HAVE that video at home...so instead of going to the movie theatre we'll cuddle up on the couch and watch E.T. together" Do I even have to tell you that the second she got a good look at E.T. she was half-begging me to turn it off?!! I saw this movie when I was 10..but I guess to a little kid he's kinda freaky!!!!Just a warning before you go shelling out big money to take your little ones to see it!!!!

I was never scared of E.T., but I was scared of another alien movie that I saw when I was about 8 or so called "Mack And Me". The aliens in that movie were so freaky looking I could hardly sleep the following night. That movie just scared me so much.

I was about 2 or 3 years old when my cousins, who were teens at the time, thought it would be really fun if we all watched ET together. They learned that, in a toddler's eyes, puppets or costumes can be very scary. And then, when Independence Day came out, they thought we should go see that....

I don't let my cousins take me to the movies anymore.

When ET first came out, my parents took me to see it at the drive-in. I was 5 years old but I wasn't scared. I thought it was so cool how ET made their bikes fly. I wanted ET to make my bike fly. :D Anyways, I don't remember being scared but I can definitely see how this movie could scare kids!

offtopic: This is off topic but that same night, following ET, I can remember the opening scene of the next movie. It showed a young girl and her little black puppy walking down a dirt road. This is all I remember and I was wondering if anyone knows what movie this might be. I don't think it was a movie for kids because we didn't stay to see the whole thing. I've just always wondered what that movie was. It's probably some long forgotten movie that no one has ever heard of.

How could you be scared of E.T.? I mean, my little sisters (ages 3 and 5) came along with my mom, my older sister and I to see the Special Edition on Saturday. They were totally into it.
Actually, the scariest part for them was when the big THX logo came up before the movie. They both closed their eyes and covered their ears. They do that everytime. It's pretty funny.

E.T. was the first movie that I ever saw in a theatre. I was like 4 or 5. I don't think it scared me.

My Nephew and niece (6 and 5) saw the re-release of "E.T." the other day and they weren't bothered by it a bit. Hell, my niece used to watch that "Godzilla" movie over and over again and it never bothered her. She's an odd one.

I remember back when "Poltergeist" was released. Parents took their little kids to see it, thinking it was going to be another sweet kiddie flick like "E.T." because it had Spielberg's name attached to it.
Man there were a lot of screaming kids in that theater!
It was really funny.
I can't help it, I'm sadistic. ;)

1. E.T. is not scary - he looks like a giant turd (sorry to be crude but it's true!)
2. The movie is so overrated. It's watchable for about 30 mins and then it just gets waaaaaaay too sappy
3. The only decent bit in the movie is that bit when Drew Barrymore finds E.T. in the cupboard
4. E.T. has been shown on BBC1 here every Christmas since I was about 5! It's one of the most reliable events in history. The year that the BBC doesn't show E.T. at Christmas I will personally go and eat my baseball caps - all 7 of 'em!

I have no idea movie that was, but,
Don't you hate it when stuff like that happens? I saw this one movie on TV when I was six, and I thought this little girl in it looked like me, but it never showed the title, and even now I still wonder what movie it was. I tried to find it on the internet a few months ago, but I could only remember a few things about the plot so I didn't have any luck.

offtopic: offtopic: offtopic: One of my biggest pet peeves is parents who take little kids to movies that are not suitable for them. I've been to quite a few movies where parents brought their little kids in and the kid either cried the whole time because it was too scary for them or ran around talking all the time because it was too boring for them. I don't understand why the parents cant just take the kids to a movie they can sit through or leave them at home with the babysitter. I have so many pet peeves about movie theaters that I refuse to go anymore.

I agree 100% If I had a quid for every time I've been in the cinema and some dumbass kids have ruined the movie for me I'd be an extremely rich woman by now!
A couple of summers ago I went to see 'Keeping The Faith' at the cinema and, thanks to a bunch of 12 year-old neds, it was one of the most disasterous experiences I've been through!! Several people in the theatre complained about them during the movie but the management refused to do anything about it!! I was so p#ssed off I didn't go back to that cinema for about 18 months!
Now I only go to the cinema if it's a movie that's been rated 18 (cos I know that there'll be no kids in there) or if it's something I really, really must see. Other than that I just wait for 'em to come out to rent and I can watch them in peace in my own home.
There. I'm finished complaining now.

i loved E.T. the first time i saw it was when i was 4 at my cousin who was turning 7 bday...i was not scared at all, but not a whole scared me...yah

i know that they are only like 4 years younger then me but the annoying 12 year old who go into movies i watch are like "blah blah blah" and wont shut up....so therefore me and my friends go into R rated movies...hehe we're real rebels ;) but even when we saw Ali this older couple behind us would not be quite and right before anything would happen they would be like "o this is when the man...." it was annoying!

yeah....hahaha....I took 3 little kids to Jimmy Neutron and this kid in back of us had seen it already.HE would say to the kid next to him "Oh,this is the part where....""Oh,watch this, this is my favorite part...."I wanted to turn around and say "Will you shut the f@@@ up???!!!!!".......At $5- a ticket I wanted a little more surprise for my $20-!!!!
I agree with you guys.I hardly ever see a movie in the theatre.

#1.) On ET being scary: I do not remember being terribly scared by ET the alien. I do remember being a little freaked out when the government came and set up all the tents in the house, and when ET was sick and pale. I wasn't scared per se, but it was a bit unnerving for a little kid.

#2.) On noise in movie theatres: I love seeing movies in the theatres (though I think they're horribly overpriced and the only reason I go as much as I do is because of my student discount), but either I am more laid back than most here, or I am lucky or something, because I have never had a horrible problem with noise in theatres. Sure, there's noisy kids when I go to see the kiddy films, but I resign myself to that before I even go, and just bite the bullet if it's something I really wanna see. If the noise is such a problem for you all, I don't understand why you don't go get a refund. (Other than of course the waste of time would be frustrating).

you know, I was about 4 years old when Poltergeist first came on HBO. And I used to watch it religiously when I was a kid. I LOVED THAT MOVIE!!! Same with Gremlins.
