I'm just curious, is Mr. Humphries gay?

Well, I ALWAYS thought he was, but then there was that episode where him and Mrs. Slocombe almost got MARRIED, I was like, "huh?".

I always thought he was just an incredibly camp character but still probably heterosexual.

:) Mr. Humphries was gay at first. he became bi-sexual, it seemed, in the sequel "Are You Being Served? Again!". that's the title it ran under in th USA. how else could you explain his love affair with farmer's daughter, Maevis Moulterd?

And when he made a pass at Miss Brahms, and when Mrs. Slocombe thought she was gonna marry him.

The running gag on Are You Being Served was that Mr. Humphries was niether gay nor straight but a one of a kind original who played life by his own rules. Therefore many times he appeared to have gay leanings while other times he apeared straight. The real joke is we never found out one way or another what his sexual preferance is!:happyface

Yeah, you hit it on the nose. They never actually labelled him as gay or straight, but because he was so camp there was the possibility he could be either, which meant he could pull off those double entendres so well.

Now ADAM hit the nail on the head. I was thinking that while I was watching it, last night. I always watch "Do you take this man?" and the one where Betty acts like a little girl. ^_^

Perfectly stated. Thanks!! He kept us guessing until the end. My Fave line:

Mrs. S: Do you sleep as nature intended?

Mr. H: I have never done ANYTHING as nature intended!

How about "Are You Being Served - Again" when they paired up Humphries with the caretakers daughter?

It was never stated that he was gay, only suggested a million times by the other characters. The writers said, in fact, that he was just a "momma's boy". This was on the DVD.
