Easily the greatest thriller of all time.

Actually I saw it today on TNT. It was the first time I saw "the verison you haven't seen." Which included the infamous spider walk scene. I would have to say they really didn't need to cut that and the other scenes out when it was originally released in 1973. I think those scenes added to the horror and in some cases those cut scenes were necessary.

However, this movie is not my favorite horror movie. When I first saw it in 1997, it did indeed scare me. But The Shining, is by far a better horror movie, every time I see it, it scares me to death.

I love Linda Blair!!!!!
I love horror movies and my husband said "is there any one that really scares you?"and I had to admit The Exorcist.Thats one of those movies that can make you run for the church, man!!!!
I also remember the irst time I saw The Shining on tv I was visiting my friend upstate and we watched it and said "That wasnt so scarey!!!"then we had to walk home...in the dark...in the snow....and I just KNEW Jack Nicholson was gonna pop outta the bushes with an axe!!!!!And ooohhh those creepy lil girls!"Come and play with us Danny...forever...and ever...and ever"Am I givin you the willys yet?
Other good ones:Candyman,Carrie,Evil Dead 2,Halloween,Freddy 1,3 & 4.

'The Exorcist' isn't scary. In fact I thought it was actually pretty boring right up untill the actual exorcism itself which almost had me peeing myself with laughter!
I love horror movies but I just watch 'em to see the blood and guts cos I don't actually find 'em scary. If someone knows of a horror movie that could scare fearless ol' me then I'd love to hear about it.

Personally, I don't find the blood and guts horror movies scary. The best horror movies are those that use blood and guts only when necessary. If used effectively then it's good. Horror movies that rely more on suspense then gore are by far the best. As for being scary, it really depends on when you see them. I first saw a part of The Shining at age 10 and believe me that scared me. It wasn't until I was 15 when I saw the whole thing. Also the horror movies with the least amount of special effects also seem to be very good.

Here's my top 10 list of favorite horror movies:

1. The Shining (1980)
2. The Omen (1976)
3. Dressed to Kill (1980)
4. Halloween (1978)
5. The Exorcist (1973)
6. Friday the 13th (1980)
7. Psycho (1960)
8. Carrie (1976)
9. The Amityville Horror (1979)
10. Don't Look Now (1973)

Okay....

The Shining scared the $h!t outta me! After the whole thing with the twins, I stopped watching it.

The Exorcist was scary, but yeah itwas hilarious too. Like the part at the doctors office. And the crucfix part. And the piano part. The spider walk thing was sooooooooooooooooooo funny!! What other scenes did they add?

okay...right off the bat The Shining is the most terrifying beacause of the fact its a father who snaps and trys to kill his family.Always a LOT more freaky than a "Boogie Man"like Freddy....although after Freddy who wanted to go in thier basement alone?
The Exorcist cured anyone of wanting to play with a Ouija board! And if you werent religious before seeing that movie...you were after.Same with The Omen. Demonic Possesion is pretty frickin scarey. The blood and guts stuff isnt as scarey as Jack Nicholson chasin you with an axe!!!!
If you like gross blood and guts rent Dead Alive. Its nasty.

I just saw the Exorist when it was played recently on TNT, it's definately scary but not as scary as The Shinning. I still have nightmares about that movie.

But just a little, F.Y.I, did you know Dana Plato audition for the role that was ultimately given to Linda Blair. But she later turned it down because her stepmother disapproved of it. Just thought that was interesting. :)

Don't Look Now was rated the #1 scariest movie of all time by reel.com. It came out the same year as The Exorcist and was really kind of buried by The Exorcist's success that it didn't get the right kind of exposure. Here's a link to reel.com.

The movie stars Donald Sutherland and Julie Christie and for the most part takes place in Venice. It's a classic psychological thriller that deals with you typical horror movie features, suspense, a serial killer, psychic visions and a bizarre soundtrack. The first time I saw it, I was totally confused. Let me tell you, you have to watch it a couple of times to get it. I personally would have never watched it if it wasn't available on video in my local library. I should warn you that there is a graphic sex scene that is unsuitable for young viewers.

when I was a little kid (the 70s) they used to play a movie on tv called "The Other" that was erie/freaky. It was about 2 little twin boys:one good, one evil.I was so spooked by this movie. There was a scene in it where the good little boy was talking to the bad little boy and the bad one said "I get my powers from the ring"and wanted to give the ring to the good boy...but they couldnt get it off his hand...so the bad one said "You know what you have to do"and the good one cut off the bad ones finger!!AIYEEEE!!!!!Up until about 5 years ago I slept with clenched fists!!!!No one was cuttin MY digits off!!!!Then on my honeymoon a few years ago my husband was watching cable in the hotel room and I heard two very familiar voices coming from the tv.IT WAS THEM!!!!!!That movie was on and those little buggers...sure enough it was the finger scene!!!!Back to haunt me!!!So if your lookin for a good head-screw movie rent this!!!!

My sisters choice for "freaky flick"is Burnt Offerings with Karen Black. They used to play it on tv in the 70s. I had a cousin who always seemed to have me sleep over when it was on.Now that I'm an adult I think she planned it that way!!!It was freaky. It was an old haunted house tale. Those 70s movies while not bloody and gorey are the worst on your head!!!!I call em head-f**ks!

Another good suspense movie is the 1971 movie, Klute.

Also very good is Rosemary's Baby, I think I left that one out of my top 10 favorite horror films that I had posted earlier on this thread. It should be number 9:

1. The Shining (1980)
2. The Omen (1976)
3. Dressed to Kill (1980)
4. Halloween (1978)
5. The Exorcist (1973)
6. Friday the 13th (1980)
7. Psycho (1960)
8. Carrie (1976)
9. Rosemary's Baby (1968)
10. The Amityville Horror (1979)
