I was really surprised that Sarah Hughes won the gold medal in figure skating tonight. She did have the best performance, but I felt really sorry for Michelle Kwan because she got the silver at Nagano and everybody was expecting her to win.

I do feel sorry for Michelle Kwan, as wasn't this her last Olympics? Whereas Sarah Hughes is like 16 I think, so she jhas many Olympics ahead.

Although, it was fun to see her reaction when she won.

Just heard the Russian Federation has filed an official complaint, saying the Russian girl deserved the gold. I agree with the dude on CNN....it is just total sour grapes from the Russians. That girl skated last, so she knew exactly what she needed to do in order to win gold. She didn't do a triple triple combination, which most of the others did, even if they did mess them up, they at least tried.

Russia and Korea are both threatening to pull out. I say let them go. Pooor pooor Russia.....they've dominated the winter Olympics for like the past four, so when they stop dominating they want to pull out and run back home to Mommy? Talk about bad sportsmanship....

Poor Michelle she got beat by the youngest again. I wish she would of won but I'm at least glad Sara did but like she said "I would of been happy with 3rd place I would of been to I mean I wanted her to win a medal but I really wanted Michelle to have won the gold. I'm also glad that Irena won I mean she did a good job and she wasn't out there for the fame or for a medal she said that she was just glad to be there to skate.

And also she didn't land one of her jumps the greatest either I mean she didn't fall but she didn't land it perfect either and Sara landed every single jump perfect so they have no reason to cry it was just Sara's night.

I'm seriously fed up with the Russians. Irena did not deserve the gold. Sarah's performance must have been one of the best ones in Olympic history!!! And I'm damn glad she won! The Russians need to stop crying and live with losing. Not everyone can win.

As for Michelle... yep. Her last Olympics. I felt bad for her, I know how much she wanted to win the Gold. But, you gotta take the good and the bad in life.

BTW- Is Michelle Kwan turning pro? I know Tara did, and Oksana Byul and some of those people did, that's why they weren't in the Olympics... so just wonderingm about Michelle

It's a shame that Michelle Kwan wasn't able to skate her best but the olympics is not the only outlet by far for a world class skater. She has won world championships, will probably win more of those among many other prizes and financial windfalls. Her four years of training have not been a waste as someone said. Much gained along the way and an olympic bronze is no cheap bauble. Beyond that, the skating performance of Sara Hughes was one of the most spectacular and near perfect bits of athletisizm I've seen in my entire life. What a Gold medal achievement!

Poor Michelle :( she did want very badly to win the gold and everyone was expecting her to win and rooting for her...I hope she doesn't feel like she let everyone down because she didn't!!! Just because she didn't win the gold doesn't mean she didn't try. I think it's the fact that she tried her best and really worked for a good performance that counts the most. but good job, Sarah!! Congrats to her!!!!

I tell you one thing, Michelle Kwan is a strong woman. If that would've been me........ I probably would've been bawling......... Especially when they put the bronze around my neck. She sure was a trooper.

I think part of the reason that Michelle didn't win was because she had so much pressure on her. She was the favorite, everyone expected her to take the gold. Also, she was in first place coming into the free skate. She knew she had to defend that position and she couldn't. Sarah went out there with a lot less pressure. She was in forth place coming in and didn't expect to win the gold. As she said, she just wanted to go out there and have fun. Her win was as much of a shock to her as it was to everyone else. I feel really bad for Michelle, but Sarah deserved to win. Her performance was almost flawless! Michelle shouldn't feel so terrible about not winning the gold. She has silver and bronze Olympic medals. She should be proud!
