I don't think it's worth getting yourself into a lather about either way . No one needs a national holiday to declare their love for someone, as it is something that should be celebrated every day. Additionally, it is sort of "created" holiday just to make profit.

On the other hand, I think the whole loathing of Valentine's Day is equally pointless. Many other holidays are just as commercialized if not more so, and of all the things there is to celebrate, is celebrating love really such a bad thing?

I hate Valentine's Day too - it makes me sick!
There's stupid cards in every store and every commercial on TV is for some stupid CD full of crappy love songs. And everything is heart-shaped!! Who decided that hearts were shaped like that anyway??? It's all a load of nonsense!
If I was in a relationship I wouldn't buy my partner anything for Valentine's Day cos I agree with Wingsfan - if you do genuinely care about someone you shouldn't have to wait till February 14th to show it!
Valentines Day is just designed to make single people feel bad - just like Christmas and New Year! Do you know, on average, how many more people kill themselves on Valentines Day as opposed to any regular day??? I don't even wanna think about it!!
It's all bullsh#t and the only thing that makes me feel better about it all is knowing that, in less than 6 months down the line, the majority of those smug bast#rds who are sending lovey-dovey cards to one another on 14th Feb will have broken up and will be as miserable as I am!!! :mad:

I seriously hate Valentine's Day. My school has put up like all of these decorations and everybody's talking about the dance. Everyone execpt me. I find Valentine's Day the most pointless day of the year. Even April Fool's Day is better.

I've never found it overly special. But I see nothing wrong with celebrating love. We should do it more often, I think. 365 days a year should be enough. Love is a special gift. To each their own.

Good point Bootsy! My husband and I don't "do" Valentine's Day. But I do think there is nothing wrong with celebrating being in love!:loveya:

I'm behind that sentiment, Bootsy. I couldn't see how one could get down right angry over Valentines day. My goodness, it isn't like you have to do something you don't want to do.

I don't think it's fair to characterize everyone who happens to celebrate Valentine's Day as a smug bastard.

Also, it truely is utter nonsense to think that Christmas and New Year's were created solely to make single people feel bad. I'm sure whoever decided that we should celebrate Christmas was sitting around, surrounded my his loving family, and suddenly was striken with the idea "hey! Let's create a holiday to make single people feel miserable!!"

I got nothing. There were some people who handed stuff out to everyone in the grade and they just frikin passed me by. I think valetines day is stupid and pointless. The only thing I have learned in the past two weeks before valentines day was that the guy I liked hated me and didnt want to dance with me because "There were people he actually wanted to dance with"... yeah he said it right to my face. He said he didnt know I liked him when I started yelling but I know he did because my freind told me he kniw 54375843975 times. So yeah love is overrated. In the unlikely event u may find someone who actually cares a little bit about you, then I guess valentines day is for you but I have 1 freind and the one guy who liked me when I liked him always pretendednot to like me. So I would yell at him and argue so bad he started to hate me. So really everything bad on both sides of all relationships I have with freinds or guys or parents is always my fault and therefore Valentines day should be abolished. If U fall in love celebrate it on your own day. Dont bug me with it.

I always hated celebrating V-day in elementary or junior high because there was always some kid who ended up like Ralph Wiggum and got nothing. Not real ego-boosting.

Plus, like some of you have said, it's a Hallmark Holiday. Why should you have to pay some corporation $4 to say "I Love You" to your sweetheart? Flowers are okay though. :heart:

Ok, you're right. I'm sorry Bootsy, I got a bit carried away when I posted that. But surely you must understand that when you're alone Christmas, New Years and Valentines Day are really hard to get through. You've got all these shows on TV portraying Christmas as a big "happy families" time and when you're not in a "happy family" it can really get you down. Same with New Year - everyone is having a great time, laughing, dancing, singing and yet I'm sitting in my room downing a bottle of vodka all by myself. And I don't want to get all crazy over this Valentines nonsense again but it seems to me that people who aren't in a relationship on Valentines Day are made to feel like second-class citizens.
