Ok, first off I gotta say, dang you guys were busy this weekend! I stop posting for 3 days and you all go hog wild! It took me 3 hours to catch up! sheesh! :p
Anyhoo, this Saturday, I got my acceptance letter from the college of veterinary medicine. So come this fall I shall be going there.
Which also means I graduate this quarter with a bachelor's degree in sociology! Less than 2 months and I'll be a college graduate...weird....
Sadly, it means I will probably be coming here less often, since I will no longer have my beloved cable modem :crying:, and I will probably be studying too much!
However, that's a long ways off and you're not getting rid of me 'til I absolutely have to go! :D
All I gotta say is thank god I got in, because I think going to graduate school with sociology would have put me in an early grave (there's only so long that I can study all the social problems in the world, and know that there's very little I can do to change them.)
Congratulations! That's really something to be proud of. My little sister wants to apply for vet school, so I know how hard it can be. As a matter of curiosity, where are you going? Near home or far away? Well, good luck! :bye:

lol, yes and no....I have gotten significantly better at handling them, but they are still quite cantankerous sometimes. Of course I've had a harder time trying to handle feral cats, so it's all relative. I have had horses step on my feet a few times, it's a miracle they didn't break my toes....I was thinking about buying steel-toed boots but I doubt they make them in my size since my feet are so small!
Anyhoo, as for all the people wondering where I got in to, I'd rather not just come out and say it, however, it is close to home (about 1.5 hours away), it is in my state of residence (thank god, in-state tuition is high enough!), it is in the midwest, and it is at the same university I am getting my undergrad degree from. Now, those who have been paying attention should be able to figure out where that is, because I have dropped hints before about where I go.....
Anyhoo.....I have to get a rabies vaccination too.....I think it's like a series of three shots or something! :eek3: Thank goodness I'm not too scared of needles!

Yes it is! WTG Bootsy!
Congratulations! Veterinary medicine is a great field! I worked in the pet supply field for nine years, and I was a manager for 5 of those nine years in that field! I took an animal sciences course by correspondence. It is a fantastic field, I wish you all the best!

Awesome!!! :D
I have a friend that wanted to be a vet until she got to college and found out how tough it was. Now she's just an animal science major instead of vet med. But I guess our school is a pretty good vet school, so maybe it's harder to cut it (which must be pretty hard). *shrugs*
Anyway, you'll do great!!! :happyface :D

My school's is supposed to be pretty good too, but honestly, I think *every* vet school says that! They all claim to be among the top in the nation.
I think vet school is so hard to get simply because there are only 23 vet schools in the country, whereas there are over 100 medical schools. For that reason, alot of people say medical school is easier to get into simply because there are more opportunities. Plus, I know the schools purposely limit the number of people admitted because they don't want the occupation to be flooded, which would drive down salaries. Pretty smart, I guess.
I almost wonder if I should have majored in animal science. I know alot of vet students did, and I know they are going to know more than me going in, but I would image that would all even up after the first year or so. I mean, they can't know that much more!
Anyhoo, thanks everyone for your congratulations and good wishes!

 My school thinks they are the greatest in EVERYTHING! If you asked them, we are the greatest science and technology school in the US.

I didn't know that. We have one of those medical school's here too, but I didn't realize there were so few.

So does mine! Losers. Hmm...and we both go to a Midwestern school that had a 9% tuition increase....I wonder if we go to the same school? Are they increasing admission standards and have illusions of gradeur about making themselves an Ivy league school even though they're supposed to be a state school? Jerks.

 I don't think we're at the same school, but maybe they're sister schools! I don't know about admission standards, but they keep bragging about how many people enroll. "We got 2000 new freshman!!! We broke our old record! Aren't we wonderful?" All the while, they are reducing the number of classes offered so that a class of 30 turns into an overcrowded class of 45. Jerks is right! :D

 Yes....sister schools indeed. My school has waaaaaaaaaay more than 2000 incoming freshman, so that disproves the same school idea.
However, it proves my other theory: that all Universities are on a self-important power trip and they all are big jerks!!

Tell you the truth, I don't know what freshman enrollment really is, but there are 27,000 undergrad students, give or take a few of course. ;)

Congratulations, Bootsy. I'm really happy for you. I remember the time when there was topic about what everybody was wearing. And you said "a t-shirt with mud and cow blood on it". I thought you worked in a slaughterhouse. And then, of course, you informed me that you worked at a vet clinic.
I recall thinking, "Wow, she must be pretty serious about her job if she's getting animal intestines all over herself. "
Good for you.

:rotflmao:  Yeah.... my current job is also quite lovely. I work in equine research, and we have to run horses on the treadmill, and since the horses' health is more important than the peoples', and since they don't want the horses to get overheatted, we are running them in a barn with 5 fans on, (one of them a huge industrial sized fan like you see on stage at concerts), and a garage door open. And this is when the outside temp is like 30-40 degrees or lower. I am freezing my @$$ off all the time there, and this is with a winter coat, hat, and gloves on.
And then the horses get all sweaty anyway, and then they shake their heads and whipe their faces off on me, getting their nasty sweat all over my jacket, which really stinks. There's also a fair bit of horse blood on there too, because we have to take blood samples every half hour or so. Fortunately though, I should be done with that job in just a few weeks. It's not so bad really, I'm just sick of being cold all the time!

See Bootsy, that just proves how much you'll go through for the job. Man, and bearing the cold. You're insane, wading around in horse sweat. Now I just have utter admiration for you. Considering the worst thing I have to do at my work is roll out pizzas.

 Been there, done that. I used to work at a pizza parlor too. That was one of my best jobs ever, probably because one of my best friends worked there too, and my supervisors were way awesome. Man, we did some crazy things there (but never to customers' food...we had other ways of making mischief.... ;) )
That place got pretty crazy too sometimes tho...every big anniversary year they rolled the prices back to the '60s, which was when the place opened, (this place is a local independent chain), and the line would be like out the door and down the street.
