My dvd player refuses to let me record the show. I am not sure if this show will have a dvd release at the end of the season so I wanted to record the show so I can add it to my collection of tv shows. Is it possible that companies know that there are pirates out there looking to make a quick buck on recording tv shows that they block people from recording shows even for personal use?

I was over on the Dallas TV Board earlier and it seemed like they couldn't record the new Dallas show on TNT . It said something about copy rights or something. I never heard of this before. Maybe it's something new the networks are putting out. I don't have a DVD recorder. I DVR it and if I like it, I'll record it on my VCR until I buy the store bought copy.

I'm unable to record anything off cable on my HD Cable box. I can only record stuff from ABC and CBS.

The only thing that MRPITT might not be able to record are movies and sporting events because those things are known for their copyright restrictions.
I have 3 older dvd/vhs recorders & they pretty much record any show that comes on cable tv. So it might be a problem with the newer models. It wouldn't surprise me if they eventually have it so you can't record anything to a dvd.

I'm not sure how yours is set up. For the tv in the bedroom the cable comes from the wall & into the charter motorola cable box. Then there's another wire from that going to my dvd/vhs recorder & then that hooks to the tv. I have to use the motorola cable remote to change the channels but I'm able to record pretty much anything that shows up on the tv. Also that one isn't in HD. The big screen tv in the living room is in HD but there are so many wires behind it that I have no idea how it's hooked up, it also has a DVR and surround sound. The guys from Charter Communications set everything up for us.

My DVD recorder is connected to a HD cable box which is why I can't record from cable.
