I'm not sure if I need to buy a new toaster or not.
I have one that I bought a year or two ago. Within the last few days when I have used it, it smells real smokey. The waffles, bread, etc. don't burn, yet the smokey smell is there. I unplugged it and emptied it to make sure there werern't any little pieces caught. There weren't. My mother looked at it yesterday and she didn't see anything stuck in it. I plugged it back in. I used the toaster just a little while ago and again it got all smokey, but the waflles weren't burnt.
Anyone know what I can try to fix it, or should I wait and buy a new one? If I remember correctly, I bought it at Bed, Bath & Beyond.

That could be a fire hazard, I'd call the manufacturer and ask them about it. They might replace it since you've only had it about a year or 2. If they don't, get a new one anyway, better safe than sorry.

I agree with Charles, the fact that it's smokey would be troubling to me. If you can't get it replaced, buy a new one.

Thanks Charles and Michael. I might have gotten it at Target. It was either there or BB&B.
This is the only information I have for it. I guess I would contact Hamilton Beach Inc.?

I"m wondering what the best brand of toaster is that will last? I'm not impressed with the one I had. it only lasted 1 to 2 years.

Jenny, I don't know much about toasters but this might be a good place to start?

I'd probably get rid of that smokey toaster too. I have a Sunbeam regular 2-slice toaster that I've had for over 15 years & never had any problems out of it. But you can sometimes get a lemon no matter what type of toaster you buy or how much you spend on it. Maybe you'll have better luck with the next one you get.

I agree, replace it. I bet there's a short somewhere in the toaster, causing that smell. Definitely a fire hazard. :(

Yikes, yeah, dump the smokey toaster. I have a KitchenAid toaster that I really like. Nice wide slots for bagels. I love it; got it at BB&B, four years ago.

I'd get rid of it too. But first I'd bring it back to BB & B and ask to speak to a manager. Say that since they are a quality oriented store (and I really do believe they are) you want them to know about a bad product they carry. Explain the toaster only lasted two yrs. A good toaster should last MUCH more than that. Maybe they will drop the product. Then ask if they might give you a discount towards a new toaster. A good manager might offer you something, realizing it as a good way to foster a loyal customer. In any event a basic toaster can be had for under $15. Good luck.

Thanks everyone. :) I appreciate the advice. I'm getting rid of the toaster. I certainly don't want something that could be a fire hazard. Thanks for the links.
