Maybe this show bombed because NBC sneakily put a show together that was the same as One day at a Time? A single parent with two daughters living in a small town:lol:
Basically it was a sitcom that the viewing public was already seeing on another network which was a hit at the time this aired. So NBC figured that a father instead of a mother would be a hit too.

it was not a diect copy per se but both shows had some of the same writers so the writers were just following a formula

I should have said indirect copy since it was a FATHER and two girls instead of a MOTHER and two girls:lol:

You know, I never thought about that. LOL I guess you could say this show was a RIP OFF of One Day At A Time.

That's why it failed, it was a obvious copy with poor casting LOL

Plus, "Hello, Larry" and "One Day at a time" are from the Normn Lear family tree. Maybe "Hello, Larry" moreso indirectly, though.

To some degree this show was a copy of Diff'rent Strokes which makes some sense since technically it was spun off from DS. The story line being that Phillip Drummond and Larry were former army buddies.

That's false, NBC had Hello Larry crossed over with Different Strokes 3 times to boost the ratings but it never worked. They came up with the storyline of Larry and phil being army buddies to create a fan base for Hello Larry but it help the ratings at all.
