Much like when Rhoda got Joe, could a love interest for Phyllis help this show along after Lars died?

i think it would have made it interesting - but what guy could put up with her antics for more than one episode?

Maybe it would have been better if they had just cast somebody to plays Lars. It would have made it interesting. lol

They could have her date for awhile and then meet someone more self absorbed than her. lol

Yeah in addition to the murder of Colby, there two other cast members who died that were up in age

Just realized one of the cast members who died was the Old Guy who made a guest appearance on All in the Family, Burt Mustin

Yeah I mean old age happens, but Barbara Colby's death hurt this show's success. IMO

They were both older than Zara Cully. wow.

Someone did mention if Colby wasn't never murdered the show would have ran into the 80's

Someone on youtube. Well brian it lasted until 1977 with colby so i guess they figured it could last until 1980/81 with Colby

Hmmm, I suppose so, but no disrespect to Barbara Colby, but I found her characters annoying.

I just don't think the set up of the show was very good. The best members of the cast were 2 people already in their 80's and they weren't even members of the cast when the show started.lol

I personally liked Phyliis, but it wasn't really "appointment TV". It just had a very low key type of impact...if you missed an episode you didn't feel that badly.

It was neat to have a show with no kids, but honestly, that show's demographic had to be quite old. I was about 12 or so when the show aired, but I didn't know anybody my age who watched it. They really needed some younger blood to put it over the top.

As to having Phyllis have a love interest, maybe. She was surrounded by so much oddity that her own vanity was almost lost in the shuffle. Maybe dating would have brought that back. Like Rhoda, Phyllis kind of lost herself once she got her own show.

Bess was young and on the show wasn't she or did she have a limited role?

^ She was on the show, yes, but she was the only young person and no, her role wasn't that big. She did get married in the last season...maybe if the show had continued there might have been some nice subplots with her and her hubby. The problem with Bess was that she was usually the 'straight man' to her mom's antics and I think the comedy opportunities with her would have been pretty limited, unless you changed her character, which I wouldn't have wanted.
