Giants legend Lawrence Taylor put his Super Bowl XXV ring up for auction recently by SCP Auctions and the final price when the bidding had ended on May 20 was a whopping $230,401.20. The buyer remained a mystery, but today Fox Sports’ Jay Glazer dropped word that it may be none other than Hollywood badboy Charlie Sheen.

Talk about putting the winning in winning bidder.

Fox Sports’ Jay Glazer tweeted that Taylor and his agent Mark Lepselter were told late last night that it was Sheen who had placed the high bid in the auction for LT’s Super Bowl ring, although Glazer did place a caveat in the tweet that he had no idea if the story was true or not. Seems plausible enough though, seeing that Sheen not only has an appreciation of sports but also the financial means to acquire such a pricey item. Plus he’s just the right amount of crazy to drop $230,000 on a piece of legendary NFL bling.

It’s sad that Taylor is no longer in possession of what must be one of his most prized treasures. Maybe he and Sheen can work out something where LT can work for Charlie until the amount of the ring is paid off and he can get it back. Hey, it is Charlie Sheen, and we’re all pretty sure that LT knows his way around vast quantities of illegal drugs and young, promiscuous women.

Charlie Sheen tells TMZ ... he is NOT the mystery buyer who dropped $230k on Lawrence Taylor's Super Bowl ring ... despite widespread media reports to the contrary.

LT had gifted the Super Bowl XXV ring to his son TJ ... who decided to put the ring up for auction without asking his father for permission first. It sold for $230,401 ... and LT's agent told various media outlets he believed Sheen was the buyer.

According to Sheen ... LT's agent was wrong.

“As much as I would be honored to own such an important artifact, I had nothing to do with the acquisition" ... Sheen tells us.

It's not a crazy rumor ... considering Sheen is a bigtime sports memorabilia collector who already owns Babe Ruth's 1927 World Series ring.

No word if the REAL buyer plans to reveal his or her identity any time soon.
