One involved a old lady found dead inside a compost box, and the other about a man who lead police to his victim's bodies, some with a towel wrapped in duct tape around their heads. Anyone know either of these?

The first case is that of Joe Owens, who later went missing himself. It turned out that he had committed suicide as he claimed--his body was missed in the initial search.

Your first case is Gladys Owens. Not sure on the second. Joe Arlan Shepard lead police to his victims body where the victims often had their pants legs wrapped around their throat. I can't recall any duct tape being used in that case although there was such a case like that so you're not misremembering.

thank you both :) I think DarkDante is right about the second, I might be thinking about the Joe Arlan Shepard case, the name sounds familiar but I'm not 100% sure it's him though

In the Joe Owens case, didn't he also wrap a towel and duct tape around his wife's head? I can't remember for sure.

You know that might be it JS. Wasn't the head also found separated from the rest of the body?

All I can recall is this guy leading police into the woods where they dug a body out of a shallow grave. The victim had a towel wrapped around their head, where they had been shot, and there was also a towel wrapped around the abdomen, which police found odd as well.
