For the first time in the network’s 16-year history, TV Land is freshening up its logo.
The new look, accompanied by its recently unveiled "Laugh More" tagline, will begin airing May 9 on the channel currently known for Betty White’s Hot in Cleveland. To hear TV Land president Larry W. Jones tell it, the year-in-the-making visual update is a reflection of the strides the cable network has made as a destination for comedies, both original (Happily Divorced) and acquired (Everybody Loves Raymond).
“The logo feels more modern, but it’s not a complete abandonment of what our heritage is,” says Jones, whose 40-something target audience has gone from the baby-boomer demo to the Generation X demo seeking the kind of multi-camera sit-coms on which they were raised on. “This was opportunity to signal to the new 40-somethings that is the new TV Land.”
The news comes as the Viacom-owned network prepares to add a second night of original programming, beginning June 20. Newcomer The Soul Man, starring Cedric the Entertainer and Niecy Nash will join new episodes of The Exes and Retired at 35 along with repeats of Hot in Cleveland. “We’re been making so many cues to our viewers that things are changing here, it was natural to change the logo as well,” Jones adds in an interview with The Hollywood Reporter.
TV Land’s evp creative and marketing Kim Rosenblum spearheaded the larger rebrand, partnering with outside firms Trollback & Co. and Cord Worldwide to design the logo and packaging as well as the mnemonic and theme, respectively. “TV Land is a fun, timeless brand,” she adds. “When we embarked on this project, we started from scratch, with just those qualities in mind.”
The network joins a growing cadre of cable outlets undergoing similar rebrands as they build out their original programming portfolios. Among the latter: E! and Lifetime, both of which recently unveiled new logos in a bid to redefine their look, feel and mission in the ever-competitive cable landscape.

I like Antenna TVs 'logo'. They don't have one,and they're smart enough to know they don't need one.

So TV Land is basically just becoming TBS?
I like it also. They needed an update as they update their programming.
I'll admit, I don't watch the channel very much, but I don't think they deserve some of the harsh criticism they get. They're doing what's necessary to remain or be financially viable.

Just one more thing not to like about TV Land. When it first came out, it was great and exciting to watch. I prefer antenna tv hands down.

A turd is still a turd even though it is polished.
Laugh more is there tag line- with shows like Murder she wrote, Gunsmoke, home improvement,- there a laugh riot.
Larry Jones has succeeded in destroying a once loved network that Rich Cronin was originally in charge of.
They have infomercials late night, cut episodes, run credits over the next programming. I am so glad for networks like Antenna TV and Metv that are keeping the classics alive for existing and new fans.

Looks cheap... I liked the old one much better. Just part of TV Land's ongoing decline.

Personally, I prefer the original logo from when it launched in 1996. They used this one for about 5 years or so.

I liked the original logo, too (and the various updates it received over the years, it had 2, so this isn't the first change), but I kinda can understand them updating the logo as many (including myself) associated the old logo with classic TV more than their recent direction.
Gunsmoke, Bonanza, MSW, Extreme Makeover, and Boston Legal on a "laugh more" network are head-scratchers.
My personal favorite was the 2001-2010? logo. So many fond memories of that one, especially in the early 2000s.
They updated the website also.

Of course I agree, but to be fair though,as much of a pathetic channel they have become,TVLand is actually no worse than about 90 percent of TV channels nowadays. Most are un-watchable for the very reasons you mentioned and more.--As far as I'm concerned, for the most part,America really no longer has TV channels anymore.Yes there are a few good ones still around. However over-all most 'channels' are just in business to show as many commercials as possible.

I remember when my cable company did not have TV land. When on vacation if I had the TV on it was on TVLand all the time. Then our system finally got it and it was good for a couple of months, then Viacom ruined it and it has gotten progressively worse. I don't even watch anymore. Whenever a channel begins with a great concept it only lasts a short while before they do what everybody else does and ruin it. I finally just got the G4 network after a long wait and they recently had a lot of management changes and resignations, etc. I give it 4 to 6 months before it becomes unrecognizable.

I have a feeling those shows are on their way out. :( I could never figure out these "Vintage TV" Networks. At first they'd start out with A LOT of decent Dramas Like Dragnet, Emergency, The Mod Squad and others, then they'd introduce more sitcoms, until before long that's all you see. Yes, I know there are fans of Sitcoms, however there are Drama Fans as well, and we kept getting the shaft! :angryfire This is but one of many reasons I gave up on these channels. Fortunately the shows I like to watch are available "somewhere else"!
I like the new logo. It is 100x better than the new Lifetime logo!
I agree. I don't know what Lifetime's logo is supposed to convey...It's weird. I don't watch TV Land much anymore, but at least I understand their new logo.

PREACH ON!!! Again, they didnt have to change there logo. The cut episodes, end credits crunch, worry about THOSE things before you worry about the logo.
You know what I love. At the very end, it mentions how E and Lifetime changed there logos to get a better feel for the audience and to grow the audience etc. I got news for you. If you cant find or watch E or Lifetime now, I doubt you ever will and no logo change is going to change that.
