Bandstand left the air for good in 1989. A victim of falling ratings and the MTV age. It came back on Vh1 in half-hour edited reruns for a brief period in the 90's. in 2004, Dick Clark announced plans to revive the show for a new generation, most likely with Ryan Seacrest as host. This didn't happen because of Dick's stroke. But distributors were interested in bringing Bandstand back to Television. Today, we don't see reruns nor have any news of a possible revival. Dick Clark Productions is just sitting on the brand. 2012 marks the 60th anniversary of American Bandstand. We live in the era of the remake, the reboot, and the revival. Why Bandstand isn't being considered is beyond me. MTV doesn't do music anymore, Soul Train's gone, I think this would be a great time to bring back American Bandstand. But what do I know? What do you think is more likely to happen with the brand in the coming years? Reruns, or a reboot? DCP even set up a Twitter account and a Facebook account for American Bandstand. Soul Train has reruns on Centric and a cruise coming up.
