There really seemed to be potential between Lou and Rhoda. How come the writers didn't pursue future storylines between the two? Also, if there really wasn't anything between the two of them, why did Rhoda break a real date to go to a hockey game with Lou instead?????

I think Lou and Rhoda were great friends, like Lou and Mary, but in a different way. They shared a lot of interests and a hard nosed, realistic philosophy about life, but they both admitted it was not a romance.
The only episode they ever really dealt with their friendship was the same one wherein they said it was not a romance, so it's hard to think they envisioned it ever being anything more, even if Harper had stayed on the show longer.
MTM was very groundbreaking in portraying relationships between men and women that were strong friendships and didn't end up with the couple in bed together.

Oh I agree with you 100% Retro, I just saw the episode "Lou's 2nd Date" and what I find odd about it is Rhoda canceling a date to go on a date with Lou.
OH Nuts!

Good question Brian, because a romance/dating relationship between Rhoda and Lou would have made a good storyline. But, there was something between them in that they liked each other as people. Lou & Rhoda could have done the simplest things together (like feeding squirrels in a park) and had a nice time. The fact that they were comfortable with each other, created subtle suspence in a way; would they move further or not. Why the writers/producers didn't develop this storyline is a mystery to me - guess there must have been a reason. What, I don't know though.
