Mr. Wilson of the Comic Strip

I'm not sure if this has been discussed before, but is there a story behind how it came to be that the second Mr. Wilson (Gale Gordon), resembles the comic strip counterpart, rather than the first Mr. Wilson (Joseph Kearns)? :confused: :confused:

Especially since the first MRS. Wilson as well as Alice, Henry, and Margaret all look like their respective characters.

It may be possible that Gale Gordon was originally considered for the role of Mr. Wilson, but he wasn't available at the time so the part went to Joseph Kearns. It at least seems logical to me that Gale Gordon would have originally been considered since he most resembled the Mr. Wilson in the comics.
